I can just imagine Sony's financial year end where they announce that they're losing billions of dollars and decided to reduce their revenue by hundreds of millions of dollars for their next financial year to build "Street-cred" on web-forums.

Could it be possible that they haven't announced a price because the price could go UP?
Just these last few days the Yen has strengthened again to the Dollar by about 5 Yen.
Perhaps they're holding out on a retail price because they just don't know what it's going to be yet?

This is worse than "We are looking at 360 development" from a Konami guy, which of course became slightly edited to "MGS4 COMING TO TEH 360!"

EDIT: One thing they cannot do is cut it before April 1st. Sony are in the red enough already for this fiscal year. They need to maximise revenue and minimise losses. If they cut it in April, they have three months to make up for the losses it will bring. Also, they need to be able to make either a very small loss or a profit on the PS3.

I had originally said march or april, but with the doom and gloom over the christmas quarter I do not think they can do it, if they do it and the SCE loses money, then some execs heads will roll, im betting on a latter one in the year now, around october or later to boost profits from hardware sells until they have to cut price, for the holiday season. its become more a matter of sony needing sec to trun profits then needing to gain market share

We can only say one thing for sure: it won't happen on 1 April and it won't be a $100 cut, otherwise Pachter Pachter Pachter Pachter Pachter Pachter ...Pachter Pachter Mushroom Mushroom Pachter Pachter... Snake Aaaaah, a Snake would be right twice in a row and the LHC would destroy Earth, and maybe the Solar System or even the whole Milky Way in a strange matter doomsday scenario.

All I can say to all the PS3 fans that believe there will be a price cut early next year is...

The price of the Ps3 is a great price, extremely reasonable conidering what you are getting inside the machine. If someone feels that it is too expensive for them to buy, then they don't really want it that much do they? They just want it for a few games and not much else, and if that's the case they'd be better off buying a 360 arcade.

I was happy paying top price for the Ps3 back when it launched because it had the kind of hardware I wanted. I payed extra for my laptop to get more RAM and a btter gfx card and more processing power.

I don't think sony need to lower the price, I don't think it'll have a huge effect on sales figues, it would have a negative effect on profits, the Ps3 is selling fine as it is.

Expect a significant price drop when the cost to make a ps3 drops, like the new cell chip. So I wouldn't be getting your hopes up. More likely we'll see a 50-80$ price drop happen in the summer.
