Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid Prime 3: The Anti-Hype - IGN Article

LOl twester...i thought the same when I went to IGN. I trust Matt's take on the game and I thought he was going to spill some awful details he had been hiding under a rock. Needless to say, phew....so far.

I don't really like their strategy, it seems they hope that gamers will take the "Wait and See" approach.

Although I completely agree with Matt, Nintendo will hype the hell out of this - prior to release. I think they are gearing up the final marketing materials now.

Make no mistakes, this game is critical to Nintendo/Wii success in the long-term.

I also have a feeling Ninty are being very quiet on the game, as it has a surprise or two that hasn't been revealed yet (and all the marketing material will show this off).

@twesterm: I just can't wait for the flame wars to begin over review scores that Metroid will get. 1UP will probably give it a "5.5" ;)

Metroid is good but not OMG good, it is the best fps on the nintendo systems. The war is on!

Halo 3 vs metroid 3 vs killzone 2!!!

Who will win the war?

Didn't advertising for Boogie begin just a day or two before release?

-edit-
And this thread really scared me, I thought Metroid Prime 3 was going to get bad reviews.

Well this thread still scares me...because I thought "Hmm...what if Nintendo isn't hyping Metroid, because it's going to get mediocre scores...similar to Lair...?"  But I'm thinking too much into it...

And yeah, Boogie ads came on a couple days before release...but that's normal.  Almost all videogames don't get ads until the week of release, because it would be bad to advertise a videogame, only to have an oblivious consumer walk into a store and not find it there yet...

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Hey I just remember something and it can be very interesting....

Last week in our marketing tab, the office ( EB Games ) asked us to put Metroid Prime 3 in our Wii for demonstration. The manager and I were laughing when we read that, but maybe many stores will receive a copy before the release.....

I hope yes.

Dunno about the "war"...but Metroid is definitely OMG good.  You're talking to the wrong fans here...

I think this is being looked at in the wrong light.

Absolute silence on a game makes for better play. Honestly, who wants to know what EVERY boss looks like before the game is even out? Do you actually want to know all the secret weapons before you turn the console on? I'd prefer dead silence over mass media coverage any day.

Truly epic games don't need advertisements to the extreme. They'll get around through word of mouth.

Back in the NES and Snes days, you'd hear absolutely nothing about a game; if you did, it was considered a real treat from the developer. When a new Megaman game was released from out of nowhere it was the most exciting thing that could happen! The same goes for any series for that matter.

Now it's all about "Yeah, another Megaman game is coming out in a year and a half according to Capcom. In a month we'll have screens and a bunch of gameplay videos. Here are a bunch of features that will be added to the game".

Megaman isn't a great example though... It's lost much of it's appeal for some reason. You know what I'm getting at though.

Maybe I'm just living in the past...

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

I knew this was going to turn into a "Halo is the shiznit" party.

I was just saying the same thing the other day on the SSBB thread.  While I enjoy it there, I wouldn't even want to look at the site if it were Metroid.  Even when I bought the new Nintendo Power I did a quick glance over to make sure they weren't revealing too much.  Metroid is all about discovery.
