Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How many of you are loosing interest in the Wii

I own a Wii but this is the first time I have purchased a non Nintendo console as well.  I really enjoyed games like Excite Truck, Trauma Center, Zelda, and Metroid.  After playing these games I had high hopes for it.  I couldn't wait for boxing, golf, RPGs... games I wouldn't normally be interested in, however, all great things come to an end and I'm finding myself playing the Wii less and less.

Granted, games like Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Metal of Honor: Heroes 2 are awesome but I think the quality of other titles has plummeted overall.  This is not the case with Nintendo made games as they are clearly getting better but third party games are generally getting worse in graphics and in controls... SSX Blur, Godfather, Need for Speed, Elebits and Red Steal blow away most of what's out there right now and those are launch titles.

I'm not Wii bashing because I hate it, I just wish companies would put adequate effort into their Wii projects (note the keyword here is adequate).

Is anyone else playing Wii less and less? Is anyone considering selling their system?  I'm not at the stage of selling mine but most of my friends already have.  It's really sad because although my friends are more into Playstation they bought a Wii first for the same reasons I did (sports, something different) but even though we have different tastes, we all agree that the reason for loosing interest in the Wii is its lack of quality third party offerings.

Something about this topic is off. People don't normally write essays in forums about how they're going to ditch a video game system. What is the point, after all? If you're actually dissatisfied, you stop playing. There's no need to go tell the world exactly why you quit. And if you do, you usually just say what made you quit, instead of name-dropping a half-dozen games.

Viral marketing? I think so. I propose a topic lock.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

He wants attention from the Nintendo fanboys.

I get bored of everything pretty quickly. My Wii, my penis, my wife, my kids. Especially my wife. Dumb bitch.

Viral Marketing Sky? Please tell me you don't actually think that.

Well dude...I haven't played my Wii in a while, but I was always a PS3 fanboy first and foremost so it's not incredibly surprising to me. I have no intention in selling my Wii though since I do like the games I see down the bend, I just don't have anything at the moment that interests me. C'est la vie.

...

Due to my laziness I still haven't beaten Zack and Wiki, Zelda, and No More Heroes. And I still play Wii sports every now and then.

Look at Games that are coming to the Wii in next 6 months. Awesome 3rd party support, something that N64 and GC could only dream of.

I do lack Rpg's most, but looking at the future releases there will be plenty of them. And sports? Madden 09 and Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 are plain awesome, Pro evo is the best football game experience for me since days of FIFA 98.

No, I still can't get any of my non-gaming friends to play anything but Wii games. So it's either the Wii way or the highway, or play alone. Using the regular gamepad is just not an option for people who don't ordinarily play video games.

Well I for one am not playing my Wii AT ALL. Mostly because I don't have one, and won't until I can walk into a store and find one. But when I do, I don't think I'll be bored with....

Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Sam and Max, De Blob, Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki (which I already own), etc...

So no, I won't be "loosing" my interest in the Wii. I will be loosing my fury on racers in Mario Kart or combatants in Brawl, but I won't be losing any interest any time soon.

Not really, I'm having a real blast with Mkwii online and Brawl too.

His post has every watermark of the viral marketing used against the Wii. Let me point them out for you.

"I couldn't wait for boxing, golf, RPGs... games I wouldn't normally be interested in, however, all great things come to an end and I'm finding myself playing the Wii less and less."

Harping on a perceived lack of variety in genres, a favorite target.

"Granted, games like Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Metal of Honor: Heroes 2 are awesome but I think the quality of other titles has plummeted overall."

Implying Wii games will only get worse. Not even subtle.

"This is not the case with Nintendo made games as they are clearly getting better but third party games are generally getting worse in graphics and in controls..."

Do I really need to point out that this is one of those "Only Nintendo profits on Nintendo systems" plugs, AND that it has "third parties don't sell on Wii" mixed in?

"SSX Blur, Godfather, Need for Speed, Elebits and Red Steal blow away most of what's out there right now and those are launch titles."

Again with the "Wii games suck" argument, this time claiming that only launch titles are any good.

"I'm not Wii bashing because I hate it, I just wish companies would put adequate effort into their Wii projects (note the keyword here is adequate)."

This line appears in all of them: the excuse for why they're doing it, to make you ignore what they actually said.

"Is anyone else playing Wii less and less? Is anyone considering selling their system? I'm not at the stage of selling mine but most of my friends already have."

The "everybody's doing it, why don't you?" peer pressure tactic.

"It's really sad because although my friends are more into Playstation they bought a Wii first for the same reasons I did (sports, something different) but even though we have different tastes, we all agree that the reason for loosing interest in the Wii is its lack of quality third party offerings."

A pro-PlayStation name drop in the midst of an otherwise starkly anti-Wii post, offered up as though it's an alternative.

Viral marketing is not about what they say they say, it's about what they actually say. Look closely and you'll spot it for what it is.
