Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Nintendo has "ruined" gaming

Ruined was in quotation marks. Eg. "ruined". That should have given you the hint. Yes, I understand it was subtle, but if you didn't catch it then I must question you as a person. LOL.

Just kiss the tip.

yeah that's admitting that nintendo did anything new here, which I strongly disagree with.... they used concepts more than 10 years old and packed it up in a super game cube basically.... and you have to enjoy the game library... getting the casual scene and being number one in sale, doesn't make you a good product... a top of mind brand a number one in market share maybe but that's about it.....

nintendo is good at implementing concepts, and to adapt their old IPs to it...

Uh, did you read the post?  You can also argue Nintendo didn't do anything new with the NES.  Like it or not, it has definitely changed things.

Well written and oh so true.

Here is how I would describe how Nintendo "ruined" gaming in this generation ...

The previous generation is a lot like having 3 satelite radio providers, Sony who had 10 radio stations (4 pop stations, 3 rock stations, and 3 rap stations), Microsoft who had 6 radio stations (2 pop stations, 2 rock stations, and 2 rap stations), and Nintendo who had 5 radio stations (3 pop stations, 1 rock station, and 1 rap station).

In this generation Sony and Microsoft focused on increasing the quality of their hardware and broadcasts, but the increased bandwith meant that they could not support as many stations and increased the cost of their hardware; and both systems ended up with most of the same stations, and their exclusive stations are in the same genre and are similar quality to eachother.

Nintendo went in a different direction ... They noticed that some people were not being well serviced by satelite radio and started offering Classical, Classic Rock, Older Pop, Country, talk radio, and easy listening. Their hardware didn't improve much, and their sound quality didn't improve much, but this meant that the hardware and service costs were fairly low to the consumer.

Overall the market now looks like Sony is offering 6 stations (2 pop stations, 2 rock stations, and 2 rap stations) and Nintendo is offering 10 stations (1 Classical, 1 Classic Rock, 1 Older Pop, 1 Country,1 easy Listening, 2 pop, 1 rock, 1 rap, and 1 talk radio). To a lot of the music-fans of the other systems who really like their Rock and Rap (and are really big into High Fidelity sound) Nintendo's success is shocking because they only have a couple of stations worth listening to, and the rest is just crap that is being offered to pander to people with "Bad Taste" ... Hell, they even have a talk radio station, talk isn't music.

I was talking about now with the Wii... I was thinking about motion control that is not new but they are the first to implement it in a appealing way.....

I was a proud owner of NES and Snes back in the days.... until my mom decided that since I was gone from the familly nest she could do a yard sale and sell my oldies lol :P

but I'm still not convinced by the Wii trend... ok they'll win this gen.... but what next ???? everybody with motion control ???? do you really think casual are about to renew their console like hardcore gamer do ??? I don't know... the receipe was the good one this gen... next we'll see...

so yeah I'll say it again nintendo is good at implementing concepts, and to adapt their old IPs to it... and certainly not at really inovating.... motion control is not a new concept....

I think when most people say nintendo "ruined" gaming (I don't believe that personally) it's because they don't believe the wii-mote is the next step up for gaming (I don't either, but I'm not going to hate on nintendo for being different).

So long as there's a least one competitor next generation that sticks to a almost entirely traditional controller (I don't mind six-axis tilt) I won't think that Nintendo ruined gaming, but if all three start using motion control, I'm going to be pissed. Don't get me wrong, I think Super Mario Galaxy and MP3 were awesome with their wii-mote usage, but I'd like to have the choice of sticking to a "regular" controller and not being forced to buy a wii-mote + nunchuck and then a gamecube controller if I want a traditional set up.

yeah that's about it.... now, is that trend something that can last more than one gen, is the real question.... I'm not certain they created any brand loyalty with the casual scene.....those guys are not really brand loyal in the first place.... I'm not even sure they will be gaming loyal... see my point ???? I have nothing against nintendo... I'm just questionning what happened on the market this gen.... is it better to try to bring gaming to casuals... or to offer a multimedia box that do gaming too in the future ??? this gen the first solution worked, what about in 10 years ???

Sony is probably the one with the talk radio--just as talk radio isn't music, bluray movies aren't games.

Overall though, Nintendo hasn't really changed its lineup of titles with the exception of the  Wii line's addition.

OMG its a play on words.  Does everything have to spoken literal to some of you to understand.

That's why its in quotations.  It's a play on the word ruin because when you ruin something you destroy it but he also means its evolved into something else.  Geez.  It's not that hard.
