It would be "PlayStation Dominatin"!

I do agree with PSrock

PS bought us until this place. Had we waited for nintendo, we might have still been using Cartridges... oh wait, the DS is :-p

and cartriges would of been a good thing. lok at cds dvds now blue ray. all these annoying long load times.

The only downsides of cartriiges was that they were

1) expensive to make and

2) limited in space (which now wouldn't be an issue)

Amen Brother. I remember back in the N64 days.

Them - "Man, my game's taking way to long to load."

Me - "Oh, mines just fine, lemme see....oh..a playstation"

If I could have my way, we'd be back with carts. =/

Gaming would not exist.

I think Gaming would be a small market like comics today. You have to remember without Nintendo there might not be much of a video gaming market today for consoles. But I seriously doubt that PC Gaming would have taken off much either. You've also got to remember that at one point in time PC gaming was a big deal untill the what early to mid 90's when the min. requirements to run the best PC games went up every month or other month. That's another reason the console market is so big today. Why pay 300-400.00 every other month to run games when you could buy a console system that had good graphics (Almost enough to compete with the PC) when you could pay say $250.00 and get a system and a few games to go with plus at this point you could also get a lot of the PC hits. So without Nintendo I think that it would probably be that you would have to upgrade your PC to play games or else as thus the gaming industry is much smaller.

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

gaming is only where it is because of nintendo's desire to bring back gaming after atari virtually killed it off.

How is gaming shaped around what Sony has done moreso than Nintendo, exactly? They brought in the CD? OMFG EPIX WOW!

DMeisterJ, if you're going to make a point, make sure you're using the right facts. Nintendo may have screwed Sony over by suddenly dropping the CD, but if Nintendo made the pact with Sony, they would have lost all rights to the games they made. So essentially, Nintendo screwed over Sony for trying to screw over Nintendo.

Actually with the release of the PS1 Sony did exactly what Nintendo is doing now with the Wii and what they did to a larger degree with the NES and that is to expand the market. Sony transformed the Nintendo vs. Sega gaming market for kids and teens into the "Hardcore" competitive gaming market it is/was (Which Microsoft and Sony are still trying to cling to.) by bringing in "Casuals" and then transforming them into "Hardcore".

But like I said, Nintendo made the gaming market what it was so that sony could do the next evolution. Now Nintendo is taking the reigns back. Is it just me or should the repeating cycles not be obvious?

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

PC gaming would be even more popular then it currently is.

Agreed. Until recently, PC gaming and console gaming were disconnected from each other. PC gaming would still be around, and the same or better.

no sony and no nintendo! *DIES!* i love you nintendo!! *DIES.....AGAIN*

But Sony brought Gaming to whole new level which Ninty couldnt. We need to thank Sony for saving Gaming as we know it today, or else.
What did Sony do? All they did was be in the right place at the right time. Like I always say, their success was more of the arrogance of Nintendo pushing developers to another console than anything at a time when more companies were getting into developing. That could easily been the saturn that the developers went to. But I think it came out and failed too early. The industry would have survived and grown with out the playstation.

It would be much like it was at the end of last gen, only shinier. Which was, in turn, much like it was at the end of the previous generation, only shinier. And this is all it would ever be again.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
