Forums - Sony Discussion - Is The Playstation 3 Really Doing That Bad?

I've come here to ask is the Playstation 3 really doing that bad? I mean in sales everyone thinks its doing so bad but if you look at this:   http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&align=1 It clearly shows that if you align the lauches the ps3 is selling about the same as the 360. And the 360 had no competetion so IMO that makes the ps3 selling better. And if you look ahead the ps3 has lots of exclusives coming our way, MGS4 Killzone 2 Ratchet and Clank Lair Warhawk Uncharted Drakes Fortune and the secret title Afrika. And not to mention Home a revoulution in how we interact with each other on video game consoles. So if anyone has a diffrent point of view please tell me because I want to figure out what is behind the worldwide phenomenon of PS3 bashing on internet forum boards. Thank you for reading.

Yes, but the PS3 has to catch up with the 360. As well as this, the 360's launch was constrained by lack of supply, and the crutial thing is that the PS3 is being outsold weekly

Of course I agree that Sony have the best line-up which will help them, but the question is; is it enough?

add me

PS3 may get a leg up worldwide once they start offering games the Japanese enjoy. Right now, Japan is dead for both the 360 and the PS3. The PS3 consoles actually sell more than the PS3 software over there (Blu-ray has it's greatest adoption rate in Japan, I believe).

A few things to consider

  1. The PS3 is the successor to the best (and fastest) selling videogame system of all time; the XBox 360 is the successor to the 11th and the Wii is the successor to the 12th.
  2. The XBox 360 and Wii were heavily supply limited at the same point in their life
  3. The XBox 360 (on a worldwide basis) could be considered massively unsuccessful mainly because of its poor performance in Japan (and certain other reigons). Being in the same sales range as it is not a good thing.
  4. The XBox 360 and Wii are selling a lot of software to go along with their systems on a worldwide basis; in Japan the PS3 is being sold primarily as a Blu-Ray player.
  5. The PS3 has very high development costs so needs a very large userbase in order to justify exclusive development.

it all depends on what you compare it with  and what your expectation where, most people compare it to the Wii since they launched at the same time (not in europe though) and the expectations are mesured at Sonys official expectations, which where very high, so if these are your standards then yes its that bad,

if you want to compare it to the X-Box 360 and your expectations where lower than Sonys than it´s still doing bad but considering the X-Box´s head start and the price difference its not that bad and has lots of time to catch up and go beyond, but it would take lots of time and even more fortunate turnes to catch the Wii and since most people expected Sony to at least ceep its domination this is Bad for Sony, not the end of the road as many say but still pretty bad,

Or Americans for that matter!!!

The constant need for sony themed threads designed to reassure Sony Supporters seems fair indication that things are indeed bad, but who knows for sure.

compared to what ppl expected of the ps3 then yes it is doing bad. In the long run who knows. I for one dont think for a minute that the ps3 is doomed (sorry strayed off topic)

Ok i see the points with supply contraints but i consider the competion as a supply constraint lol! Anyway I also see the bad sides which is primarily based on the release date and price but I predict that if the games come out soon enough and they stay exclusive that the big fanbase of the PS2 will start to make the transition over. The only problem is when they will make the transition.

how come people always make threads about this and people always give answers like this.. when will everyone realize that a system wont sell hardware or software unless it has games...  ps3 games have been slow since launch everyone knows that but still throws numbers  and predictions and other crap into the equation.. once the ps3 has a decent month of game releases then we should bring this topic up again but until then the only thing you are doing is guessing... which means nothing
