Remember the DS got even a GTA game. The more the switch sells the more 3rd party games it will get.

Something that has changed significantly over the years is we don't see 3rd parties really creating exclusive content. There was a period where developers would even create completely different games for lower spec devices, like PS2 and Wii.

Even at 50+ million units sold, it doesn't look like developers are creating unique content for Switch.

Naturally a lot of content like mostly 2D visuals and indie stuff works on Switch. Based on current trends, developers might design some games to scale easily on Switch. Team Sonic Racing and Crash Team Racing for example really seem like Switch was a focus, but these games can still look much more impressive on other platforms.

Well, probably ps4 and one will keep getting games for a long time.
At least xbox will support one with new games for 2 years. PS4 has a large base and developers wont drop it soon.
Would be the same situation that switch currently is in port receiving for 2 or 3 years at least after ps5/XSX launch.

People who claim Switch's third party support will disappear when PS5/XSX come out act as though it's already getting a ton of current gen AAA games and that it depends on them to sell.

Neither is the case.

Switch isn't going to stop selling when it doesn't get the latest Call of Duty, RDR, GTA, etc, because it's already not getting and those games, and that hasn't stopped it being one of the fastest selling systems in history.

Switch does not need AAA third party support.

Maybe they don't need them, but for me they make the system seem more attractive, like if Rockstar announced GTA V for Switch tomorrow I'd be buying Lite right away.

Oh don't me wrong, I for one really like that Switch gets games like Doom 2016 and Witcher 3, I just don't think they're a major selling point for most consumers since there are so few of them.

Yes. Obviously the high spec stuff won't be ported to Switch, as the current high spec stuff hasn't either with a few exceptions. A ton of Switch's third-party games are 7th Gen and older ports, as well as indies. Neither of those are technically demanding.
PS5 and Xbox Series X will affect the Switch, but I don't expect a huge Switch drop-off because of them. At least not right away.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

PS4: 130 mil (was 100 million) Xbox One: 55 mil (was 50 mil) Switch: 96 million (was 73 million)

3DS: 77 mil (was 73 million)

Keep in mind the Switch rarely gets 3rd party, multiplat support outside of indie games. Of the big 30 or so AAA games released each year, the Switch gets maybe 4?

I don't see this changing

A combo of Switch Lite and PS5/XboxSeries could be a serious scenario in the future. No one will care about the docked version because it's simply too weak and because of that it is wasted. But ports of older games will continue and we should be very thankfull for that.

Some of the multiplat games Switch missed in 2019:

Ace Combat 7
Life is Strange 2
Resident Evil 2
Kingdom Hearts 3
Apex Legends
Far Cry New Dawn
Metro Exodus
Anthem
Dirt Rally 2
Dead or Alive 6
Devil May Cry 5
The Division 2
Sekiro
World War Z
A Plauge Tale
Rage 2
MotoGP 19
F1 2019
Madden 20
Control
Borderlands 3
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Grid
Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighbourville
Call of Duty Modern Warfare
Need for Speed Heat
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

Yes Switch is already missing a lot of third party titles, so PS5/XSX making ports less viable is going to make very little difference.

That's what people said about the Switch three years ago; it won't sell because it's too weak compared to PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Now, it's one of the fastest selling systems ever.

Tons of systems and countless games have proven that having the best graphics just isn't that important to the average consumer. If it was, the Xbox One X would be the top selling console right now, the Wii would've failed, and games like Minecraft and Roblox wouldn't be crazy popular.
