Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What will be your second platform of choices for next gen after Switch (outside PC/smartphones/cloud gaming)

My second consoles will be

PS5 34 73.91%

Xbox X 11 23.91%

Xbox S 1 2.17%

Total:46

I wish there were an option that said..."Ain't nobody got time for that." Seriously, I have a hard enough time keeping up on one platform, the thought of owning another console gives me so much anxiety. I just bought 9 indie games yesterday since they were all on sale and I had $100 on my eshop account after Christmas. And I only did that because I knew I'd regret it when all those games went full price again.

Anyway, if I did have to get another console and somehow ended up with enough time to justify playing...I'd probably go with the Playstation since it's the most likely place to get to play a few updated versions of games I liked on the PS2. Of course, Sony has forsaken those fans in favor of the more hardcore XBox crowd of that era and that of the 360, so it'd just likely make me sad and regret my purchase.

I'm leaning towards Xbox because I think the Gamepass is a good deal. On the other hand, I really like Spider-man which is pretty much the only exclusive I care about on either console unless Microsoft puts out a decent Banjo game. Of course, if the switch gets decent third party support, I may not buy any.

Not sure at this point maybe PS5 in future but the PC/Switch combination has been immense to the point my PS4's playtime has vastly been cut down.

I don't have a desire to buy new gaming hardware for quite awhile as I've bought quite a bit lately. I've rarely bought Sony platforms at all, and the XB One X and Switch are all I need for the foreseeable future.

If anything, what I might do is get a new spruced up gaming PC in 2 or 3 years, and just play gamepass stuff on there in addition to new PC games. My desktop was bought in late 2012, and while it's still decent, it's starting to show its age. To me it would make more sense to simply have the powerful all-in-one machine (which would be able to play XB games anyway) rather than the Series X which is basically a lesser gaming PC anyway. I'm also not crazy about that big, rectangular design. Plus my cousin, who's a big Xbox guy, will probably shell out for that anyway so I can just check it out at his place.

I don't completely rule out Series X, but it would probably be 4-5 years down the line for me if anything. May just skip the entire next gen on the home console front and stick with Switch/One X/PC

The poll is missing the "None" option.

That and the switch isn't next generation, it's current (9th) gen. Also, it shouldn't include rumours (xbox s).

Trick question imo :p
Switch belongs to the current gen, of PS4/Xb1.

That said... a PS5.
I was pretty happy with what the PS4 had, so expecting more of the same with the PS5.

Yes, the switch belongs to the current gen but the ps4 and x1 aren't a part of it. And let's not derail things after this.

Both

Still undecided. This gen I have both and it is unlikely that this will continue being so next gen. I have less and less time for gaming each year so buying two consoles except Switch is just way too much. Definitely will be getting one of those at launch but which one will be decided after official info comes in. New Xbox design is weird and IMO it is not a good start for them.

Your comment (quote) is the derail. You could have just ignored my comment if you dont agree.
Consensus is that Switch is current gen (same as ps4+xb1), switch wiki even says so.

And again, its possible to have multiple devices in 1 gen.
Nintendo just had Wii U + Switch, in same gen.
Because nintendo gens are shorter, while Sony and Xbox ones are longer.

Plus a generation, a device belongs too, is determined by its commentitors at its time of life.
Switch will spend most of its life cycle, competeing against the PS4 + XB1, not the PS5+Xb2.
And again, what games it has.  Switch got PS4+XB1 multiplat ports.... it likely wont get PS5+Xb2 ones.

This leads it to being a current gen device.
If you dont agree, you dont need to quote me or derail futher if you feel like that is what will come of it.

Hardcore Nintendo fans will not buy the PS5 because its the only platform that will most likely outsell the Switch
