[FINAL PART UP] VGChartz' Top 50 Video Game Music Composers

Forums - Gaming Discussion - [FINAL PART UP] VGChartz' Top 50 Video Game Music Composers

I am a little surprised Yuu Miyake didn't place higher. The soundtrack to the original Katamari Damacy is definitely in my top 3 soundtracks. (And on any given day I might put it at #1.) I only put him at #4 on my list, because my top 3 have several games with great soundtracks. I guess he isn't on the radar for most gamers though. I personally could listen to these Katamari songs every day.

Since my #6 (Chikayo Fukuda) made it to #54 – 48 on the list, here's one of my favorite tracks she composed.

Part 2 is now up and you can check it HERE if you haven't noticed it yet. Also, sorry about the long wait for this part. I got a bit sick last week and couldn't really concentrate on any writing for a few days. Hopefully the next part is ready a bit faster.

Glad to see Miki Higashino on the list. Reminiscence is probably her most memorable song for me, because it's often the first one I think of.

I was reading some of her interviews, and she worked really really hard on some of these games. Even for Japanese standards, it sounds crazy.
A typical Monday for her was get to work at 9AM, and leave to go home at 9PM...

And a more recent interview here. (2013)

It sounds like she left Konami and the music industry when she did because she had no social life due to her work schedule, and wanted to start a family. And she had a child about 4 years later.
I was surprised to learn that she composed music for some other games I had played and liked as a child, like TMNT 2 The Arcade game. Makes me want to re-visit those sound tracks.

In the second interview, she mentions that in 2011, on a charity album for the earthquake/tsunami disaster that year, she contributed with one song called Tomodachi. I think this is her last known work in the music industry.

Even though I placed her as #5 on my list, she is probably the composer whose work I admire the most. And if I could meet any one of them to thank them for the music they made, it'd probably be her.

Toby!

One of my favorite recent developer and composer, Undertale and Deltarune are amazing and his music for them, Little Town Hero and Pokemon are all incredible, wish the best to Toby and hope that he continues to grow.

(Also hope he works more with Nintendo, his music style goes perfectly with them, make Kirby music next pls).

Let's have a champion time!
