Forums - Sony Discussion - What new inputs could the DualShock 5 add?

Problem is, people are conflating innovation, with invention. They're not the same thing. Innovation is about more than just inventing something new, it's about using something that's already there, and making something new out of it. Motion Controls weren't a new concept when the Wii was introduced, but the Wii used the concept in a new and better way than previous attempts. That's innovation. People like to bring up Pics like that to try and make an argument for Nintendo not inventing anything, an argument nobody made to begin with.

You do have a point but regarding bold let's not ignore that it nearly always starts with claims about how all Sony is doing is copying Nintendo. Very rarely, I see people claiming that Nintendo never invented anything. For instance on page 5, I wrote "nearly every innovation is a refinement of something existing" and "innovations are in most cases refinements". You got it backwards.

On the contrary, I often see Nintendo fans claiming that Nintendo is behind every innovation and that Sony is always copying Nintendo. For instance in the comment I responded to, it is claimed that Nintendo is behind innovations such as the analog stick and motion control.

Analog stick:

Motion control:

Funnily enough, the same people never include examples where inspiration goes the other way.

Increase precision, implement full 3-axes motion control, add a couple of buttons and a throttle.

The DS4 is my favourite controller. I don't think they should add anything. Except maybe the vibration triggers in the XBO controller that I had no idea existed.

Maybe paddles on the back.

I love the DS4 as it is, but if they were to add anything to the DS5 controller i'd say add extra paddle (or buttons) at the back of the controller like the Scuf controllers.

Keep the D-pad as is. That thing is what makes it better than any other controller.

It's fine the way it is in my opinion. I hope they stick with their style of controller and avoid the xbox design. Never liked it personally.

To each their own, but to me DualShock analog orientation placement should stay exactly as it is, and I'm glad Sony is sticking with it.

I love your puns, dude.

Why am I the one just used to symmetric design and not you the one just used to offset design?

I gave you the reason.  The design of the Sony controller makes it so your thumb, at rest, lands on the D-pad.  The opposite is true of Xbox and Nintendo.

It's not a matter of adjusting for Microsoft and Nintendo's controllers.  The primary control is already in the position where the thump would naturally be.  There is no adjustment or reaching necessary.

For Sony, the primary control is out of position of your natural hand grip.  An adjustment and reach is necessary.  You might not notice anymore, but the design flaw is still there.

It's not about about preferences.  It's about simple ergonomics.

You give me the reason offset is better because left analog and action buttons are leveled and that is better.

I have said nothing about the right half of the controller at all beyond that symmetry only matters if you're looking down.  I'm afraid a large portion of your post is just refuting words you put in my mouth.

LOL.  Then by his preference the right analog stick on the MicroTendo controllers is in the wrong position.

This is sick and disgusting...the exact kind of comment I would make.  A detachable sleeve would be handy for sanitary reasons.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

The controller has really been missing some form of Theremin addition to it. Just think how much it would increase the accuracy in driving games or shooters!

You would dominate the FPS world on this badboy.
