We're currently in the process of beta testing a VASTLY superior version of the TinyMCE editor, we all use when posting rich-text messages in the forums. It's getting a fairly good work out from some of the frequent posters here, and so far there have been very few side-effects of the move.

As we get a better comfort level with the idea that there are no significant bugs or nasty issues that break threads, I'll be doing a "slow roll" of the editor out to Supporters first, and then a general release to everyone. In the meantime, I would like to get some feedback from you all, as it would help me to ensure important features are addressed - and it will help the beta testers focus on areas that need to be validated, before we start to open this up:

  • Which features do you most often use today?
  • Are there specific features that you've tried to use, but they don't work properly or are a struggle?
  • Are there features that you wish the editor would allow you to do, but are not currently available?
  • If a streamlined mobile version of the editor was available - would you prefer to use it?

These are just some of the questions that pop into my mind, but I'm certainly open to other ideas/suggestions around this particular tool. I value ALL input here, as I'm sure the beta testers will, too.

The most important things are video embed and tables. For image embed I still use bbcode, which will hopefully still work.

I don't know if it's possible to do spoilers with bbcode as well, the spoiler function in the editor was always a bit wonky for me.

This is good - ALL of what you've just mentioned is addressed in the new editor, including a new spoiler tag tool...

Spoiler!
Here's what the spoiler tags look like...

Will the new editor change the HTML code muh compared to the one we currently have? I made a template for the PC news and I would like to know if I'll have to change it.

Other than that, an easier way to add colour and change the font size would be welcome.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

You shouldn't have to change your template - anything you're able to do in the current editor, should be possible in the new.

Now - coloring and font stuff is a tricky area. The new editor certainly has the functionality, but this is something we've typically tried to restrict, in order to prevent the forums from becoming an eyesore. It's something I'll have to think about...

Good work Talon.

I was going to message you about the site basically locking up my pc for a second when navigating. It seems fixed now.

What I would REALLY love is for us to have auto dimensions. Saves a lot of trouble.

I've asked jlauro to look into the website issues because I too, have noticed it's been up & down for the past 24hrs. I don't know that it's related to the new editor (there are only about 5 people using it at the moment), but anything is possible. Regardless, it's definitely something I've experienced as well, and we'll get it resolved.

What exactly is "auto dimensions"?

Image and video embed are two of the main ones I use.
And on that note I've always wondered why the default dimensions for Youtube embedded videos are 425 x 350?
It's not the size itself I have an issue with, but the ratio.

Here for example, it has black borders at the top and bottom, as it does not have the same ratio as a standard Youtube video. If this was back in 2007 maybe, but not these days.

One bug I'm currently experiencing is that every time I clicked "Preview" while typing up this post, I was taken to an error page.
Not sure if that's temporary.
~Edit~
Yeah it keeps happening if I do it while I have a youtube video embedded. Not otherwise.

As for features I would like to see, is there currently a tool that lets you place your marker behind a table? If I quote someone for example, I don't know how to place the marker behind/above it, so what I do instead is I highlight everything > cut, then I type something > paste.
