Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Nintendo Switch is generation...

What generation is the Nintendo Switch?

Generation 8 (PS4, XBoxOne) 71 44.94%

Generation 9 57 36.08%

Generation 1 (of the hybrid era) 14 8.86%

I don't care...I come to VGC for the chicks 16 10.13%

Total:158

Can't sweep the Wii U under the rug acting like it never happened. Deciding it's time for a generation do over. The Switch can't use the generation 8's Wii U game disk. The compatibility with the control pad isn't available. The Switch is gen 9.

Switch is generation Infinite. It is superior to everything before it and will be better than anything coming after

Generations are meaningless in the constantly changing modern era

So to those who are suggesting that the Switch is a Generation 9 system, are you literally saying that the Switch is the only Next Gen console on the market right now? Does that sound right to say?

It's a battery powered gen 9 mobile device with the expected performance boost to the battery powered gen 8 mobile devices (Vita + new 3DS). Performance is of course a bit lower than a 100+ wattage gen 8 home console which ain't battery constraint.

In the same vein that the Wii U was a next-gen console at the start of gen 8, yes.

With that Logic the Wii could play GameCube games and use with GameCube controllers, the Wii U could play wii games and use wii remotes. Are we seriously using that to determine gens?

It is technically Gen 9.

There is no argument that could possibly deny that, other than silly conjecture. It is the next generation Nintendo console.
