Forums - Gaming Discussion - With Sony out of E3 2019, are you ready to admit E3 is not the climax of gaming news it used to be?

THey are though, in terms of of visitors and excibitors they absolutely dwarf E3.

So? They're open to the public, E3 isn't. It should be expected that they'd have higher attendance.

E3 is still WAY bigger though because it's simply so much more important. TGS is fairly important too, but Gamescom isn't even a speck on E3's radar. There's like nothing good announced at Gamescom ever.

So you're one of those "it's not the size that counts, it's how you use it" people.

It's the big show in terms of news and reveals with social media reaction and people jumping on a bandwagon.

Sony not being present opens the door for Xbox to really push the brand.

Microsoft's half-cocked attempts at anything this year are legendary. There's a reason the console's called the eX-Bone.

I doubt there's anything they could pull out that's going to impress anyone.

As more rational commenters said in the other thread Sony might just think they have nothing to gain from E3 next year. If they aren't ready to talk about PS5 yet no new games to announce leaves only Last of Us 2, Dead Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima left to talk about and what else is there really to say about those games. They aren't going to sell more copies of those games by showing them at E3 again. Let's wait and see what happens in 2020 before calling E3 less relevant

In terms of people who go to the events yeah, TGS and Gamescom are bigger but in announcements? Nah, neither of those events are even worth watching for announcements, unlike E3.

E3 is still the best when it comes to announcements, reveals, and all the above. Only reason more people are going to Gamescom is because it's open to the public, when E3 is not. If E3 was open to everyone, way more people would go there. Now that is a fact. The only reason Sony's not there next year is because they don't have enough new stuff to show. They even said it themselves. You can bet Sony will be back at E3 2020, and beyond.

i think its an opportunity for MS to blow the lid off the place.

loved the presentation by MS this year, disappointed hugely by sony. and still being disappointed. Thanks poor mans austin powers layden. i like shu much more.

granted they have some big first party titles coming out this upcoming year but it seems they have moved on to gearing up for ps5 a bit too early, which makes me think what about BC with ps4 for ps5?... getting that vita feeling of abandonment as a ps4 owner.

Nope. That week is the week where we get shitloads of announcements still (even if we exclude Sony).

It’s still still far and away the event where we get the most gaming news.

The only reason Sony is skipping is because they dont have enough to show. They will be back in full force in 2020.

Yep pretty much.

This. All of it.

Regarding to bold, I hope they'll return in 2020 or make/attend a similar event in June, July, or August.

I only watch E3, i couldn't care less about the other shows. Hopefully Nintendo comes back and has big shows again aswell now with the absence of Playstation.

No one saying, "oh, man, I don't care about game announcements, I just want to know how many people attended!"
