You know, that would actually be smart. Sony is taking a gamble by allegedly skipping E3 and this strategy would make sense of that.

If MS spills the beans at e3, it gives PS time to figure out how their going to deal with it, like they did with Pro. If PS is going to have a massive 25th anniversary event, whatever that entails, saving up event funds by cancelling PSX 2018 and e3 2019 also makes sense, since they really don't have much else to show on a big stage. If MS is launching mid to late 2020, or they mention nothing at all, then PS shouldn't have to worry, but if MS pulls the trigger early and launches late 2019, PS may end up behind by a few months to a year, worst case, and they could really use the extra time to strategize on how they want to deal with that scenario. By late 2019, it's unlikely that Scarlet has too many first party AAA titles ready to go, so PS should be able to ride out the holidays with PS4 if need be, plus an unforgettable 25th anniversary event(s) scheduled at the right time, should take a fair chunk of Scarlet's spotlight away pending a 2019 launch.

Do you really think there’s even a slight chance of MS releasing another 500 dollar console just TWO years after the last? Come on, you can’t be serious...

I'm banking on both the next xbox and ps5 to be $500 personally

No way, one of them has to at least be $400.

why? surely people now after two gens of advancements be willing to pay an extra $100 to get a beefy console.

Perhaps they're ready to launch in March but would rather have a more feature packed console ready to go in November. Just waiting on Microsoft. Neither company wants to give the other too much head start.

Nope.

6 months gap can't make any meaningful difference in possible specs.

Another way to look at it, whatever sony anounces whenever they announce it has been in the oven for years before that point. And we know they are both going with AMD. The only way one comes out being as much as 25% or more powerful than the other is if they wait for aother 2 or 3 years, or mke a console that cost significantly more.

So sny going from a mtch to november lunch in the same year cant possibly mean that we get a more feature packed console. It wll be the same thing.

Pretty sure he meant software app wise.

When PS4 launched it was pretty bare compared to PS3 as a media player. For a good 12 months I was still using my PS3 to do my media stuff over the PS4

Hell Nintendo done that with the Switch. Bare bones and annoying lol.

I'd say 25% chance right now. If Scarlet launches a year after PS5 it's pretty much screwed. I don't care how powerful it is for the same price as PS5. Now if they take that same scenario, and move it up a year to match the PS5 release, then they at least stand a chance. MS is spending money like crazy lately, which says to me they could very well build a $600 2020 level console and launch it 2019 for a 2019 level console price. As long as the specs are enough of a jump over XB1X, if it's subsidized at $500 or less, they will win some people back. Maybe not enough to level the playing field like with 360, but enough to close a portion of the gap that's been created. It's not the most likely option, but I do think it's possible.

This would be ich a huge middle finger to X1X buyers....not sure this would do any good to the brand. It’s would rather scare people away.

I dunno. If MS hasn't scared people away already then I don't know what will. They have been making better decisions as of lately, and getting into a Sega situation could cause problems, but ending up too far behind the PS5 may lead to just as much, if not even more bleeding. MS is stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of hardware. They may have to hold off until 2020 or even 2021 then to appease the XB1X owners, or offer a to good to be true trade in program for those owners specifically, so it's worth it for them to jump regardless of the specs. If you want the very best again, why not make the transition for a trade in and $100?

I would say it would probably be a master stroke for Microsoft if they announce next Xbox at E3 with late 2019 release. If they release after PS5 I think they already lost next gen as well. Unless they can compete with Sony exclusives which I seriously doubt.

With next gen coming with 4k being more prominent, I can't see either of them being lower than $500

I’m with you an that one. I expect the PS5 (and Scarlet) to pack a punch and that will come at a price. 500 is what I expect it to sell at when it launches.

With mid-gen console refreshes slightly blurring the lines, it makes it so a leap in performance cannot be attained if you keep targeting a low price-to-entry like how the PS4 and Pro launched at 400$.

For the next gen consoles, both Sony and MS will want them to be a leap over the mid-gen consoles. And that can’t come cheap. After all, the PS4 Pro and XBox One X are still selling for 400$ and 500$ respectively.

It's possible sony will launch a cheaper console, a 10TF GPU with 256-bit bus width memory controllers and Microsoft goes with a 384-bit bus width memory controllers with 15TF as we seeing now with ps4 pro and Xbox one X. Reason for this is to keep manufactoring costs down and safe way to play. Very similiar strategy they went with ps4 and ps4 pro. But my guess is same as yours though, they will both launch 15TF consoles in 2020 and it if this reddit dude is correct it will be 499$ launch price.

You are not serious if u think  that Sony is skipping E3 only for annouce something that weak. Sony will not let MS having console more powerfull about 5tf. Sorry such dumb thinking. Show anya sources that making you think that ms will left  15tf machine while Sony put 10tf rubbish console. And be real ps5 with 1440-1600p will not happen Sony and MS console will be both native 4k. They will not let MS powerfull console and they will not let them having marketing for most powerfull console in history, thats all.

Hmm something like a 10TF gpu launching holiday 2020 for 399$ is the most common sense prediction for PS5, atleast over the folks at resetera and beyond3d forum, this a very safe play from Sony and they are winning. And Microsoft doing something similiar with the Next Xbox like they did with Xbox one X where they push the TF number is very likely and sell it for 499$. So yes PS5 being a 1440-1600p console while Next Xbox being a 4K console has a big chance.

Again though I think both will go for a 15TF machine. But I could be wrong.
