More hints:

8. a)  A 90's fantasy themed arcade game made by Capcom, first in the series.

b) Play as a Fighter, Cleric, Elf or Dwarf in this D&D themed game.

7.  a)  A remake of this PS2 game was released on Switch the same day as Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
b)  The King of the Cosmos commands you to fix his mistake.

6. While the first game in the series played like an arcade game, this third entry was clearly made for the home with it's over world that let you pick your stages.

5. This is the second iteration of a PC strategy series, which was a spinoff of a PC fantasy RPG series.

#8: D&D: Shadow of Mystara... wait, it's not the first... that would be *lookup* Tower of Doom

#7: Oh, the beatiful, awesome, strage, phantastic Katamari Damacy. I didn't put it on my list, as I only ever played it on a con for a level or two (it never released originally in europe), but I play it since the remake released on Switch and proudly created the Moon. That game is awesome!

#5: Heroes of Might and Magic II?

All correct!

Also I didn't know that Europe never got the PS2 version of Katamari Damacy.  That is a serious crime!  I'm glad the Switch finally corrected this injustice.  However, releasing Reroll on the same day as Smash Bros was not really a great idea IMO.

Back in the day I loved point-and-click adventures, and LucasArts were the masters at it. This was simply unmatched. And Day of the Tentacle was one of their masterpieces.

The humour in LucasArts games is just so great. And the humour seeps into everything, is expressed by dialog, visually, in everything. Just look at the picture above: there are basically no parallel lines. Everything is crooked. Even Bernard is not standing upright, but kinda weird. Well, even the verbs in the menu have all weird characters.

Playing is also special for a point-and-click adventure, you play three characters in three times. You can switch between them. Solving problems often involve doing something over time. So if in the past a tree is felled, it stops existing in the future. And what happens to that hamster... that is hilarious.

Excellent game. It got a remake with updated graphics recently.

Indeed. I didn't have much time to play Smash as I was busy playing Katamari. Nintendo should've planned the release of Smash for a date with less formidable competition!

As you'll see there's plenty of games with a certain level of humour in my list. I often like games that have an original theme, some unrealistic twist or in general just don't really take themselves seriously very much. One such game, and probably even the biggest joke of them all, is 'Theme Hospital'. It is a construction and business management simulation game where the player builds and runs their own hospital.

Obviously, it is no ordinary hospital, because that would be boring, and the patients have the most wild and imaginative diseases. One will have a large, bloated head, another will be invisible, or have hair all over his body or even seems to be radioactive emitting a greenish glow. These diseases have the weirdest, and wildest explanations.

Because of this, it's a timeless game, like many others from now defunct developer Bullfrog were. Some games tried to replicate it's tone afterwards, or were influenced by it but didn't deal with hospitals. Sadly none really succeeded. To me though, 'Theme Hospital' remains a classic and a game I could play any day, all day.

On #14 I had Pillars of Eternity. Some of the same guys made a similar game - 15 years earlier. Baldur's Gate was the first game to use the Infinity engine, and these games including also Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale are often referred to as Infinity games, as they share gameplay, graphics and complexity.

Complexity is the keyword here. Baldur's Gate is a game which often allowed you to play how you want. Decide which party members to recruit. Which way to go. Be evil or a do-gooder. In a way it is a Skyrim with isometric view, a party (instead of a single fighter) and a better battle system.

Interplay projected 200K sales, the game in the end sold past 2 million, a major success for the time.

A few years ago an enhanced version was released, most importantly it updated the resolution. The screenshot above is actually from the enhanced edition.
