Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Kotaku- Microsoft is close to buying Obsidian Entertainment

As a gamer who plays mostly on PlayStation systems and loves their games, these are terrible news.

I hope it's not true but if it is, I wish they continue to make amazing games with MS's almost limitless budgets.

Smart. MS building their first party up for the next generation.

Of course MS will support and push there OS because thats why PC gaming is what it is today. Windows 10 doesnt restrict you from downloading Steam or any other conpetitive App.

MS's big real competitor is Apple, and unlike Apple MS isnt restrictive. Apple could buy Obsidian and lock them to Apple only devices, would you much prefer that? Sony and Nintendo would do the exact same thing by closing them to one platform.

Your preference is your preference, you choose to boycott Win10/Xbox so be it, as for me, i couldnt care less if MS buy Obsidian or not, because i know weather there owned by MS or not i can still access there games without changing my hardware, i dont care about the petty little things like logging into another App. Heck i brought BF4 and Dead Space 3 which were exclusive to Origins. I still played them and enjoy them.

I havnt admitted fault because i dont see a fault in this deal. I dont hold personal grudges over MS so this does not affect me.

End of the day, weather we like it or not, it seems MS are buying Obsidian which is considered normal buisness practice, big companies buy little companies and they mainly do it to make money not to lose so id assume MS have big plans for them and now that they might be financially secure we can see what protential they have.

"that's why PC gaming is what it is today". Yeah and you forget the other OS's and don't give credit to them either, funny how that works.

Windows 10 store restricts what you buy and where you buy it, stop trying to dodge the goal posts. The OS also becomes a form of restriction when win 7-8 users are not able to buy MS games that are locked to the Win 10 store, so in essence the OS does become partly restrictive. You want to call those people "stuck in the past", you may as well say the same for every OS that isn't Win 10, and that is an argument you will lose outright, and for good reason.

MS is restrictive in who gets to use what via their own OS. They haven't allowed the majority of their own software to be fully usable on other OS's, even the free Linux. Apple locks software to their own OS, the same way MS does, so please stop trying to assert that MS is completely 110% the same as Linux, because it's really not.

I'd prefer Obsidian remain free and 100% autonomous. if they get bought up by MS, they remain locked to MS devices and OS's, just like Apple would do. It's funny how you claim MS as literally the only one whom wouldn't "close" the studio to their eco-system, yet apparently everyone else would, that's utter tripe any way you spin it.

Yes, my preference is my own, clever deduction right there. Also "boycott" is such a strong word, I prefer it as my own "decision" not to purchase from the Win 10 store, but instead to purchase from others that give me what I want and what I'm looking for.

You call it petty, that's adorable. What you are interested in can be seen as petty by others, and I know you well enough to see you arguing differently, but you don't want to see it from the other end and admit you misjudge them.

I bought BF1 on Origin because I had no choice. There is no other choice to buy BF1 other than Origin, thanks to EA taking their ball and going home with it, while charging a higher price. Same thing Activision has now done with CoD, with zero benefits to my side.

You don't see fault because you know it would knock you down a peg, as well as your arguments. I've seen you do this with multiple users on here and it's honestly frustrated them for good reason. YTou do not make sound and factually "compelling" arguments. You just throw everyone else under the bus that isn't MS.

Ha, I don't hold a personal grudge, I just dislike stupid shit that companies do, nothing "personal" about that.

Buying anything is considered a "normal business practice", doesn't mean it cannot be criticized though. Any company buys another to make money and not lose it, what else is there beyond the average norm?.

I'd rather see their potential without being under MS's heel. I've seen what other devs have without being a part of the big 3.

Seems the point went straight over your head, or maybe you choose to go with there the same thing. Forcing a product on a device which requires you to buy new hardware for is completely different to logging into a different Eco System that is available on the same hardware. Under MS you would expect everything to come to Windows and Xbox. Under Apple you would need to buy a Mac. Big difference.

Dont say you know me, you dont, you have no idea how i game or what i do, you base that assumption off the same few who disregard me who i prove wrong.

Now we are going off topic. End of the day, get over it. MS are building there line up because of all the critism they have been receiving lately so you poke the bear than expect action, especially a big bear like MS.

You can hate it all you want, difference between us is i dont care aslong as i dont lose access on hardware i own. This move does not change that or affect me.

If you choose to miss out on quality games due to a log in than go for it. I dont care if i have to log into an app, ill do it just like my Origin examples.

No, it hasn't, you've just been trying to skew the point and changes made over the years in OS's and gaming to just MS. You willingly ignore Linux, Mac and the other OS's when talking about gaming on PC as a whole. You only focus on your best bud company and nothing more.

You claim so hard to like many a thing, yet you hardly ever show for it when talking about other software, other tech and the like.

Actually no, it's not even new at this point. Minecraft itself isn't new either, and we know what they've been doing with the original vs the other versions of MC for one example. The other games that can easily work on 7-8 are simply outright denied, because they didn't install and use Windows 10.

Just for the record, I use Windows 10, but it in no way stops me from criticizing the company, while also standing up for those who simply want to keep using 7, but also be able to play the games they want to play on them.

Actually no, Anything under Apple means you have to use Apple, and the same goes for Windows for Xbox, the same exact deal mate. You have two difference eco-systems that operate under the same core principle.

Yes, I do. I don't know your daily life, but in terms of talking about MS and gaming, that matter so very, very little, so don't drag personal life or what petty little issues you have going on in it. I disregard you because you are simply full of hot air. You defend at every turn, you move the goal posts each and every time, I've seen you argue with other people by now to know that you will never admit fault, it's just who you are as a person on a psychological level.

You can get over it mate. You need to get over the goal post moving and always being on the defense all the time for a company that doesn't give a rats arse what you do.

Lol "big bear", oh sweet summer child. You think MS is like some godlike figure over everything on this planet, how absolutely childlike naive you are. History is written by the victors as they say, and well, that hasn't worked well for MS 3 times in a row so far.

"hate"?, no criticize is the word, please use it correctly, let I decide to label you outright like you do me.

I choose to support and purchase what I want, and what I want isn't on the Win 10 store and isn't what MS is selling. Until Win 10 has a full and rich feature-set and library exactly like Steam, and isn't attached to an OS, then I'll consider them, but until then it's Steam, GoG, B.net and Origin for me.

Look Chazore, I don't know what else to tell you. For those who don't mind gaming on Win10/Xbox obviously don't see an issue with this, for those who hate using Win10/Xbox need to get over the fact that MS are buying studios and unfortunately those who are crying that MS have no games are probably the ones hating this deal. Oh well that's life isn't it. And we cannot do anything about it. Obsidian are the ones that have to sign the deal, MS cannot force there hand.

No you don't know me, if you did than you would see those debates I have with others are normally a select few that hate being proven wrong or misinformed. I will continue to have my stance on that weather you like it or not. For the record I don't even own a OG Xbox and I got a 360 half way in its life which I also use to criticize MS for there off game topics at E3s. I am allowed to change my stance on them now because I see what they are trying to do. Again my opinion and preference.

Your opinion on MS is clearly just your arrogance against the company. That's fine, have it, I honestly couldn't care less. The victors write the history books, I agree with that, much like the victors who wrote the WW1 and WW2 books. Though considering the point you are trying to make on MS being the victors I would hate to see what your thoughts are on those old World Wars we had. But all to our own I guess.

End of the day, Big companies buy little companies.

Microsoft buying Obsidian is one of the best things for the industry. Obsidian was tanking really badly.

It is and Obsidian has been open to a buyout for a while now people shouldn't be mad that MS actually showed interest while others didn't, same with Ninja Theory because if MS was able to buy them then anyone could have.

Bad news, MS will ruin them and keep the games on windows and Xbox, two products I will never buy.

See, I don't understand this. What's so wrong about owning an Xbox? I know everyone has their preferences, but it's not like Xbox is a terrible system. It's has tons of features and great games. If I didn't have to worry about money, I would own all the current gen systems without question.
