At least they'll still be in the same city

Promotion/relegation is a good thing though. It means even fans of smaller clubs can hope to see their team one day playing at the top level, that's why you stick with them. They could go on to bigger and better things, or if they go down you stick with them in the hope they come back up. Plus if they go down a division then they'll be one of the favourites to win the new league they're in, so that's another reason to stick with them.

But if your favourite team moves out of the top level, and you want to continue watching your team, you'll have to watch non-top level football, and I prefer watching top-level sports. So, the only solution would be to pick a powerhouse, or to jump from team to team.

I like Middlesbrough but they are almost never in the Premier League anymore.

Well if you really like the team then the level they're playing at shouldn't really bother you.

Besides, if they're your local team, then the fact that you can easily go and see them should be enough reason to continue supporting them regardless of their level. And if you're not supporting your local team, well then why wouldn't you pick one of the top teams anyway? You can also have more than 1 favourite if you want.

I live in Canada, so obviously the local teams situation doesn't affect me, and neither does the promotion/relegation system either for that matter, since the MLS doesn't have it. Though the MLS isn't considered as prestigious as the big 5 European leagues.

Fuck it, I guess I'll choose AS Monaco FC as my team

Doesn't matter what league they're in your favourite team is your favourite team for many a team represents not just their country's football but their local area, promotion and relegation is the reward and punishment for consistency/complacency and help to keep the game competitive.

Teams have different styles and philosophies the's more to it than just playing in the top leagues.

Yes, but for me there are no professional clubs in my local area, so I guess I don't have the same attachment as others would.

If England and Russia win it would mean they meet in the Semis surely fate is not trying to push that? After the political chaos earlier this year that would be a time bomb if it came to be.

I hope one day a team from outside of Europe and South America can develop the talent Belgium has. They came from out of nowhere to being title contenders, why can't China?

Most countries, particularly European and South American but also elsewhere, a popular after school activity is to go for a kickabout with your friends. This kinds street football is where young children start to pick up the game before gradually moving through the academies.

Such a gathering is illegal in China so football doesn't catch on in the same way.

Unfortunately people in the USA play basketball on the streets and school instead. Did you know soccer (as I'm sure you know it's calked there) is seen as a rich person sport in the USA?

Why do they view as such? It's the sport most accessible for those not rich hence the saying it's a gentlemen's game played by mugs and vice versa for Rugby.
