N64. No Mercy, Smash and Perfect Dark was life.

Insert Coin. Press START. You Died. Continue?

PS1.

Despite how much I disliked the 7th gen, the phat PS3 was definitely a great console with PS1/PS2 compatibility and pretty much the same library as 360+ PS3 exclusives with free online play.

If not that then I choose PS2.

A toss up between PS2 and 360 for me.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Played all of those consoles, but i'm gonna* say this N64 is my favorite console of all time then Dreamcast and then Saturn.

Edited for typo.

PS2 by far, it's the only console that ever felt next gen when I first played it.

I think it's probably the least remarkable console of the past 18 years. It was a tossup between that and GNC, but I think GNC would have more fans here.

Right, but it introduced the world to the Halo and Forza series’s - two of the strongest franchises in modern gaming and leaders in their genre - and you’d most likely still be buying memory cards like you still have to in portable gaming, the field MS hasn’t ventured into (not counting mobile phones).

Halo, sure, but it's really lost it's relevance the past generation. It hasnt ended up being a transcendent franchise like GTA has from that generation for example that is still as relevant as ever. You can argue GNC doesn't have anything relevant either and you'd be right. IMO they're both pretty irrelevant today, and the GNC probably even more so. But I assumed GNC would be more popular as a choice than the original Xbox here so I ended up going with that. If the poll allowed more options I would have included it for sure.

Not sure what you mean by memory cards though? There's no way we'd have memory cards even if the xbox never launched. It was the first to ditch them, but it would have happened next gen almost certainly regardless thanks to the explosion of cheap memory that was being used in all sorts of new tech.

SNES hands down.

PS4 is in the poll but not Switch? Seems really odd to include a modern console and then only put 1. Even with regards to the max length of the poll, it would make more sense to not include any than just 1.

Anyway, I chose NES. I spent unfathomable hours playing seasons of Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Super Bowl, Blades of Steel, and Baseball Stars with friends (the games that didn't have season mode, we made up entire season schedules on our own with pen and paper). We also teamed up in Contra, Jackal, Gauntlet and other multiplayers. My brother and I used to play Adventure Island and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out together even though these were single player games. And then there's the unfathomable hours I spent playing on my own in Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Super Mario Bros 1-3, Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, Simon's Quest (yes), Iron Tank, Faxanadu, Nobunaga's Ambition, the Mega Man games... The list goes on and on. Of any console, the NES features the most games that I will go back to and replay decades later.
