Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Labo is a huge ripoff and a waste of a great concept (so far)

Thanks for your views on Labo.

However, at the end of the day as much as I don't care for it, as a Nintendo fan i'll probably buy it and stash it away in a cupboard sealed never to be played lol

I'm sorry to hear that. If there were a way to shove cardboard up Nintendo's ass, I'd advise you on how to do it...

Just sell it used and get the bulk of your money back. Don't let Nintendo get away with this.

Looking at the CEX site, you can sell the games but the cardboard 'peripherals' can only be sold if the box is sealed. Unsurprising really. Not really much point is the things are already built, and as its cardboard it's far to easy to damage when using so would be almost worthless otherwise second-hand.

F***! I'm still hoping sales for this Labo thing are poor.

I still think this kind of product will flourish during the Holiday season in particuliar :)

We'll see... I do enjoy watching Nintendo squirm from time to time.

The know says it "flopped" and it was a "failure", selling less than 30% of its shipments in japan.

(they shipped 90k vararity kit + 29k robo kit)

Thats like a total of 119k units shipped in japan, and less than 30% means less than 35,700 units sold of it there.
Origami is probably bigger in japan than anywhere else in the world.... so Im not expecting insane sales anywhere else for it.

Also claim that the Labo software didnt move any switch units, switch sales where lower that week than prior/expected.

*** edit:
My opinion was always that it looked like cheesy shovelware level software..... Not sure why people where so hyped up on this.

That it's perfectly normal and expected? Nobody knowing the Japanese market at least a little bit expected GoW to come anywhere close to Labo.

Like I said in another thread, GoW didn't even have marketing in Japan, while Labo's marketing was huge (TV spots, trains, stations, streets, stores, dedicated salesmen for demos...). Sony didn't care for GoW and didn't expect anything from it (it's a western game made for western gamers), Nintendo believed in Labo and pushed it hard.

That's why even if Labo sold better than GoW, Labo's sell through is only around 30% while GoW is around 60%. It's easy to see which one underperformed compared to expectations here, I don't know why you want to open this useless debate, saying "it did better than a completely unrelated game as expected, in Japan only" doesn't mean anything for the concept's quality or its success.

You mean like this :

Not quite like that but let's just say it's close...

Well, if there is a silver lining, maybe it's that Nintendo will finally... FINALLY just give up on casuals and become the company they were in their glory days. Just make bad ass core IP like BOTW etc. and stick to it.

I really dont think Labo underperformed, i truly believe Nintendo & retailers wanted to make sure there was plenty of stock for Golden Week which is the reason for the big shipment.

Their glory days?

Are you talking about the NES/GB era when they bundled a toy gun/robot and a casual puzzle game?

Or maybe the DS/Wii when a pet simulator, motion control minigames and education/fitness titles were the biggest system sellers?

Kinda interesting that their 2 best selling handhelds and 2 best selling consoles had a very strong kid/family/casual fanbase.
