Wait.. so you actually use cardboard? I mean I know this is meant for children, but it still looks very cheap and offputting.

Shhhh...you just said that Nintendo is a kiddy company, that 2017 didn't matter and they are doomed! No criticism allowed!

Funny how Nintendo announces two products explicitly directed at children randomly in January, separate from the normal game announcements, and suddenly people accuse them of going back to being a kiddy company.

We still have Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, SMT 5, Dragon Quest 11, Dark Souls Remastered, Octopath, Travis Strikes Back, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Wolfenstien, and more coming for 'core' gamers.

The kids can have their toys without everything Nintendo did in 2017 being undone.

I felt like thats why they did a mini direct before it, but for some reason people forgot about it....... lol. Well we have to wait until february for the big direct to wait for these people to calm down

Agreed, which instills confidence that they know they have multiple demographics that need attention. They've been marketing to the core gamer for nearly a year, so I doubt they're going to just forget about us. It's just harder to see past what's been dated for the beginning of the year, but all those things I listed are still coming.

Oh okay lol. I guess there are chances for Nintendo to sell just cardboards for a much cheaper price.

I’m pretty sure they will...doesn’t seem too durable. I’m really curious what kind of MODS might happen though!

Oh true! Maybe this is what Nintendo also plans for it to be. For third parties or just people to create their own thing with just using cardboard. It can great even bigger attraction if it gets viral.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I agree with that, I think even if this new thing doesn't sell too well they'll probably still reach the 20m as long as they have the games to back it up. What I mean is didn't Kimishima say he felt this new way to play was going to be specifically one of the things to help Switch reach 20m this year though?

I can't really see how this new thing in specific will help with that too much, but again I guess it depends on how well the concept is executed when it launches and if it really takes off and becomes popular.

Yeah who knows. It could be like how when I first played the Wii in the store I was amaze by how fun it is. This could be one of those where if it get shown live then it can attract a lot of people.

I think it will all come down to how fun/quality the actual games it comes with are. If it's like 1 2 Switch where it seems like most of the minigames are just random crap that isn't really fun then I could see it ruining the whole thing, especially if they're charging $70-$80 for it, and who knows since they were willing to charge $60 for 1 2 Switch at launch.

The VR Robot one looks cool though

I don't know to which person nintendo wants to sell this. Maybe 5% of all switch owners have kids in the age of 6-12, so from 15 million owners, 750.000 are in that category. How many of them want to spend 70-80$ on cheap cardboards? 5% 10%? so 75.000 potential sales. The switch is way to expensive for parents to buy it for the kids in the targeted age group. 400$ is to much money even as a Christmas present.

I actually think I'll pick this up. The variety pack looks pretty cool. Mostly excited for the piano, the rc cars, and the house that has you playing mini games.

I think people knock Wii Music mostly because it was an E3 reveal and they spent a ton of time on it. They're right to knock the game (although I've never actually played it) because of this fact alone. It was awkward and left a bad taste in people's mouths. On the other hand, Nintendo Labo was announced today (with no mention or leak whatsover before) and will release in 3 months. That's almost no build up at all, and it's apparent that this isn't a "direction" that Nintendo is heading in, but rather an aspect of what is possible with the joy-con/Switch modular capabilities.

I expect this to sell at least a million on the curiosity factor alone. I don't think the main audience will be kids, but rather the 20 somethings to 30 somethings that enjoy Nintendo's more innovative/wacky side. The kids will certainly follow come holiday season, especially if there's good buzz at launch and from critics.

I like the concept.

I’m interested to see how practical it is. I want to assume that it’ll include a file/template to cut a new set when the original inevitably fails. But you know what they say about assuming...

Worst case scneario, you should trace a template from the given cardboard sheets before constructing. Or look online because somebody will. So durability won’t be as big an issue in the end. Part of the “game” is the construction itself.
