Oh my absolutely yes. From it's release up until the launch of the PS5 and the next Nintendo system.

Those PS exclusives didn't sell a lot compared to the big multiplat games however...

Which is irrelevant, as big multiplats (FIFA/COD/GTA) always sell better than exclusives. Does not change the importance of in-house titles.

Which is not irrelevant... For the record: I mean multiplat sales on a single console (in this case the PS4), not the total amount of sales across all platforms.

Nintendo has exclusives that sell as good as those titles you mentioned (on a single platform of course)... Pokémon, 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing, etc.

Only on Nintendo platforms are exclusives the major driving force behind sales.

They don't really have to - they are just there to give an extra oomph to the system that is built with full 3rd party support in mind - most gamers seem to prefer 3rd party games, so good exclusives are there just to tip the scale a bit.

How many exclusives would PS have if we take away major third party support? A lot of console exclusives on PS are made by third parties after all, and not Sony themselves (Persona 5, Nier: Automata, Nioh, Until Dawn, etc.)

Would those games still be made if PS4 didn't sell a lot?

Nintendo's properties drive more sales, yes, but that was never presented as an argument. A consoles's exclsuives will always matter, regardless if they sell like Nintendo's properties or not.

So stop trying to turn things into an us vs them discussion.

No one said it didn't matter, it's just not as important as most of you here seem to think it is... Otherwise sales of these exclusives (Persona 5, Nioh, Nier, etc.) would be A LOT higher. Persona 5 barely scraped past a million.

Yep I buy every console based on exclusives, and I really can't see why it wouldn't be a factor to most other people.

Sure a casual gamer will see CoD and Madden on both PS4 and XB1, but a lot of them will be affected by what exclusive is on it whether it be Halo, Nioh, Forza, or TLOU.

Actually, I think it's very important - Sony always tries to have very diverse portfolio of exclusive IPs of various...let's say...sizes - i.e. for some Uncharted 2 was all they needed to buy PS3 - for me it was Journey and Demon's Souls - I don't really like most of Sony's 1st party AAA games, but their exclusive 3rd party games quite often hit the spot for me.

They seem to be going with the same strategy this gen, just with better hardware this time (compared to PS3 vs X360)...and that's working quite well for them.
