Forums - Sony Discussion - Right, do we think a PS4 Portable is coming?

The technology isn't there yet.

When the technology is good enough, I still don't want to see a hybrid model. Hybrids usually mean compromises and a higher price tag.

I'd rather see a handheld + home console system with a shared library. That way, each model could be tailored to its environment ... and I wouldn't have to pay for portability I care nothing about.

I don't think its feasible to turn a PS4 into a portable device, not as small and would be less power efficient.

I mean the Switch was a device built for portability.

No.

It's not even technically possible right now. The Volta even if it released sometime this year won't be ready for something that needs a battery for some time and even then is slightly below base PS4.

I think we will see skus of Switch like this eventually. Maybe in 2019 at $199 each.

Nah, I don't think so.

They'd be entering R&D around now and by the time it'd come out they'd be releasing the PS5 real soon, wich sort of defeats the purpose. The tech is also not nearly close enough to make a fully fledged PS4 portable, they'd have to go with a mobile chipset, wich again defeats the purpose.
Also Nintendo probably has some sort of exclusivity deal on the Tegra line with NVDIA, wich means Sony would not have access to the most powerful mobile chipline going forward either.
Unless they straight up go the Nintendo route and make their next console a hybrid, wich will probably sit inbetween the PS4 and the PS4 pro powerwise this just isn't technically feasable. And even then it's probably not a smart move.

Uhm X86 Chips in 4-6nm would actually work in a mobile form factor.

They wont use ARM tech for sure because that wouldnt allows compability with PS4.

The most powerfull ARM Mobile chipset is the Apple A11Bionic, not the Tegra x1 or Tegra X2. Even the Snapdragon 835 is pretty much in par with the tegra X1.

I am 100% convinced there will a Playstation Swap™.

This is Sony.

I'd rather Sony focus on New support for the Vita. The Vita is such a beast of a handheld, which was only held back from poor AAA support from Sony.
If Sony would put greater focus on AAA titles such a New GTA Vita, MGS Peace Walker 2 Vita, Gran Turismo Vita, God Of War (Adventures of Kratos) , PSASBR 2 and a New Ratchet & Clank Vita……
If Sony could put these games into motion for the next 3 years, the Vita would be the handheld everyone wants to own.

That ship sailed a looong time ago buddy.Plus titles like MGS and GTA are third party franchises and its not up to Sony to decide wether or not said titles are developed for the Vita or whatever.

A MGS without Hideo Kojima? no thanks... on the other hand, I have 2 PSVitas, so no one will be more happy if sony makes more AAA games for it, or port some.

Here's a crazy idea. Instead of being reactionary, how about they resume support for the Vita? It's already there, and it's great for portable gaming. Remember the 3DS? All it needs is love.
