Always wanted to try a monster hunter game when I heard about them but always felt they wouldn''t really be my type of game. After playing the Beta it was gorgeous but I can tell I would not be into this. Just going around hunting monsters? That's not really all that great to me.

Do these games have any sort of story to them?I assume no? Either way for people who are into these games it's going to be amazing. Couldn't believe how good it looked.

Sort of. In Monster Hunter 4, the story was basically whole the time: 'Oh no, there's a dangerous monster out there, so now we can't do what we have to do. Kill that monster so that we can continue with what we're doing.'

Very impressed by the beta.
While I wouldn't say it's much more beginner friendly, especially seeing some odd tutorial timing, it's at its core Monster Hunter with a ton of money thrown at it
Ain't nothing wrong with that xD

The Beta have not impressed me at all.

I'm so surprised!

I downloaded it yesterday, haven't had a chance to play it yet, hopefully will at least find an hour.

Hmmm... not sure. I've played the beta today, and having played every MH since MH3, I'm not actually really surprised or blown away by the beta. I'll probably buy it anyway, I just can't help myself since I love the franchise XD.

Online only single player? ewwww

Considering this is a BETA and they need the statistics it is quite obvious you need to be online.  Most probably that wont be the case when the game releases.

I feel like this entry in the franchise is more focused on the hunting aspect of the game thus they probably reduced the Quest time from ~45 min to 20 min so the player is more focused on hunting his objective instead of exploring, material gathering and item crafting, which makes the whole quest more linear.
And honestly, this 20min mark is ruining my MH experience, I mean I don’t even have enough time to hunt the other big sized-non-objective monster in the respective quests.

Quest codes for invites - Why not just have your username be the term people use to search for? Or just have a normal invite system like any other game where you can set a private lobby (which you can here) and then invite people from your friends list, or just enter their name? No random people will be able to join your game if you set it to private, so I don't understand why they are using codes.

This is the exact reason it became not purchasable game for me at this stage. I was going to get a copy day 1 (and either buy two of my friends a copy, or convince them) but now have shifted to Black Friday of 2018.

It took too long to set up things with friends, and you constantly have to do it for each mission. This is like friends codes but for missions, in fact it is worse than friend codes, since it requires letters (lower case and upper case) and numbers. Even the Wii version of the franchise was easier to set up. This is a game I heavily play with my real life friends, and it requires too much effort to set up anything.

My honest impressions of the gameplay it self, is that while annoyance above has jaded me, I do think it is solid. Some of the controller mapping options is questionable, but when you get the hang of it, it is pretty much monster hunter you love.

By the way, in case you don't know, there is an option at the end of each mission to continue playing with the same party, so you don't have to have anyone enter a code again. At the top center of the screen when you either win or fail a quest you'll be able to chose this option. You have to press R3 to select it.

Huh, I thought it stated replay mission, not different mission. Maybe bad translation? That does help, still have to convince the other two, they really did not like the system setting it up. Hopefully I can get a deal on the game like I did Call of Duty/Battlefront.

It says "Play again with current party".

Does that force you to replay the same quest? I'm not sure. Going to test in a bit.

Tell me if it selects new mission. If it does that helps loads.

Been wanting to get into monster hunter because of how much people seem to enjoy playing, but i really just couldn't find any interest in the beta. everything was to slow, and the monster to me weren't as interactive and responsive as i imagined they would be.
