I keep seeing that it's winning, but the global numbers regularly show PS4 outselling it. Am I missing something?

Im not sure its talking about beating the others, more like Nintendo found a winning formula which is giving them strong sales and solid profits.

The trick is to never play the games on both systems.
I never played rocket league on Ps4 so the switch version looks good to me, in the same way i played Doom on my ps4 and didn't get it on Switch so i can't and i won't criticize

The best version of the multiplatform games won't be on the Switch, for sure. That said if it can get 20% of the total revenue then it definitely will make companies go for the Switch. Some games might even appeal more as the portability could be a huge selling factor especially for games like Rocket league imo
