Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon Switch Will be the Biggest thing ever.

Having HMs be non-removable and having TMs be one time use made the game more of a challenge. To say so otherwise is nonsense. Every generation Pokemon gets easier and easier.

Depends. Although it’s likely to sell well still.

There’s a chance we experience graphically of a game like those on the GameCube (like Gale of Darkness). Where it’s top down, somewhat linear story, with the graphics taking advantage of the hardware, and turn-based battling. Pretty much an graphically better game that we’ve been experiencing.

I think some people are hoping for an MMO like experience. But will possibly be in for a huge dissapointment.

It'll be good. Especially since the main team for Pokemon hasn't made a Pokemon game since X/Y. We've seen some of the new models as per Pokemon Go. So that'll give you a preview of how the Pokemon models will look in gen 8. For those unaware: Sun/Moon and US/UM were made by Pokemon's second team. This team is considered the "creative team" that makes what you might call the definitive versions of Pokemon games. So they've worked on: Crystal, Emerald, FireRed/LeafGreen, Platinum, HG/SS, Black 2/White 2, and OR/AS

Source?

Shigeru Ohmori worked on Sun/Moon and Kazumasa Iwao did Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. These games were each of the directoral debuts. Other than them the main people who do Pokemon games are the A team, aka the team with Satoshi Tajiri and Junichi Masuda.

PokeRides are vital. HM's were terrible. And Alolan forms were something that needed to happen a long time ago

Pokerides aren't vital. HM's were terrible, Alolan forms were cool. I'm more talking about the scenarios of Pokemon and the story which are trying too hard and they end up not being that interesting. Pokerides just seem very cheesy and kind of disrupt that raw connection between trainer and Pokemon that I felt Pokemon HMs offered. I just feel HMs made you build a skillset a bit more cautiously and that consequence helped add to the reality of the game. Now, Pokemon was never a hard game per se, but it's become easier and easier as they make it more and more convenient for the player.

Theyre vital as they replace HM's which were bad game design to begin with. They still suck. They weren't even initially intended to begin with and were only added as a technical limitation. They can easily personalize the Pokeride w/out forcing people to use the clunky and bad HM system

That's not a challenge, it's bad game design. Bad game design making a game harder isnt a challenge but rather a crutch. They were never hard to begin with. Why do people think Pokemon needs to be "harder"? It was literally never difficult XD If people want a "challenge" they need to play the meta-game

Would definitly be something to finally have a mainline HD entry.

It should be

It's still huge on a five year old platform

Bigger than GTA?

I'll continue to have my doubts. As Spem said, the Pokemon team doesn't seem as ambitious, especially with how Nintendo has been with BotW and SMO. It could end up being another pokemon like previous titles with the same visual style. I'm just gotta keep my expectations in check until they reveal something.

Serious question, do you think pokemon go would have been the success that it was if it wasn't free, and didn't run on devices almost everyone already has?
More specifically, how are you correlating the success of pokemon go to the potential success of a switch version?

Don't get me wrong, it's almost a given that a switch pokemon title will sell gangbusters, but it seems naive to use pokemon go as a gauge in how it could perform.

I know it's just a rumor buuuuuuuuut :

55:40 mark for the juicy part :)

If they really end up shaking up the Pokemon formula in a good way, hey I'm all for it, haha. Like Bosman, I'm still gonna be skeptic. (I watched that a few days ago and forgot about this conversation, haha)
