Piracy no matter how you try to spin it.

Should be locked

When you own the game you are emulating?

Often emulation allows you to play your own games at far higher resolution, frame rates plus many other improvements. There is piracy on original hardware too especially PC. Should threads about PC gaming be locked for that reason?

I bought BotW on Switch.
I played it for 150 hours on it.

There is nothing wrong with me spending another 150 hours, but this time at 4k30, and 4k60 in shrines.
I paid my dues, now I shall reap my reward.

it's a nice thread, please don't derail it.

Fair enough.

I think it is time for me to get a new GPU. I have an r9 280x, from when I built my PC in 2014, but the thing runs CEMU (and I assume RPCS3; haven't tried) like crap because AMD's drivers aren't that good. My CPU isn't the bottleneck (i5 4690k @ 4.4 Ghz.) I'd like to sell my Wii U and PS3, hate having so many consoles around.

Cemu seems to use a fair bit of RAM.
Currently my instance is using 16.6GB of system memory, and 10.4GB of VRAM.

Your CPU would probably be better than mine for this task.

I have 16GB of system memory and only 3GB of Vram. Breath of the Wild even at native resolution, with a full shader cache, cemuhook, etc only runs at like 15 - 25 FPS, with many nasty graphical artifacts, and tons of stuttering (shader cache doesn't seem to work.) The last version I tried it on was 1.8.2, but I doubt there was much improvement with 1.10.

On the otherhand, Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World  have been running almost perfectly at 1440p for a while now. Xenoblade Chronicles X has that annoying bloom glitch, which I am too lazy to fix. The game also looks much uglier than on Wii U even with a 1080p texture pack. It runs okay (25 - 30fps with drops to the teens during battles.)

An Nvidia card with at least 6 GB of VRAM would probably fix my problems. Definitely want to fool around in Xenoblade Chronicles X and Breath of the Wild at 1440p or 4k.  CEMU will probably always have problems with AMD cards because of AMD's lackluster driver support.

Hello there. Finally a truly interesting thread! For the longest time, my reason to own a powerful PC was PCSX2 (even though I own two actual PS2's...), and CPU power was its bread and butter. Interesting to see that there is a certain move toward GPU's now...

Anybody hear of a Vita emulator in the works? I own a PSTV and Vita Slim, but for the sake of preservation of some of the rarer titles, an emulator would be necessary - which is not in the works afaik.

After over an hour of playing Cemu running BotW was consuming 19GB of system memory.
At 4k my GPU is only at 80 - 85% load  (GTX 1080Ti).
I don't seem to suffer much graphical artifacting.
I seem to hover around 30 - 45 FPS, with very rare drops to the twenties.
Shrines seem to have no issue running at 60 FPS.

Mario Kart seems to work rather well under Cemu.
I can get it to run at 8k50, currently, at least, on the early tracks.
There were some major rendering issues with the cars in Toad's Turnpike, but the game seems highly playable.

I have not tried Xenoblade yet.

Welcome to the Emulation Megathread, your friendly place to discuse the latest emu news, get help with setting up emus, chat about your favourite emulators and what games you always come back to replay on an emu. And remember emulation is not just a PC thing. The is so many emus for consoles also, I remember the PSP was a great portable emulation maching back in the day, Android devices have pretty much took that spot today But even back to the Dreamcast the was some pretty good emus released for it. Pretty much this is your one stop shop for all emu related discussions from here on out.

Also I'd like to take this chance to ask anyone who plans on talking about piracy to please don't. The mods will be watching this thread as I've had a discussion with Miguel about it. So no accusing anyone of Piracy, No asking about Piracy, No talk of how emulation can be used for piracy etc. Let's keep this friendly.

Thank you for makeing a thread like this.

It all in 1 place, seems like a good idea, and I kinda enjoy seeing how far along these emu's are getting.

I havnt personally tried Cemu or RPCS3 yet, but they are looking closer and closer to viable means to play your games with.

I have a SNES emulator on my TV. Sony 4K TV's all use Android TV as the operating system, so it's easy to download an emulator. Getting the ROMs on there is a bit tricky and the Bluetooth on my TV isn't as reliable as the newer TVs, but it still works great. It has enabled me to keep my SNES and my Retron 5 in storage for the time being (about to move, don't want to unpack just to pack again).

Watch me stream games and hunt trophies on my Twitch channel!

Check out my Twitch Channel!:

Need a new build, my i5-4670k and GTX670 won't really cut WiiU/PS3 emulation, Mario Kart 8 runs pretty well but eh, If I see a framedrop I weep.

About time we had this thread!Nice!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
