I don't like ports, and certainly don't think they should be used to tentpole consoles that simply don't have a proper library already in place. Essentially ports should be used to accent an already thriving pool of new games, in a perfect world, lol. Seems like more and more they are used to fill outright empty months for games on consoles.

I totally agree with you. I dont mind them as a compliment an already stablished and healthy library of games.

I think ports are fine, wonderful in fact.
They give the games a chance to appeal to a new audience and don't take much to make.

As long as the creative teams are working on stuff that is new and fresh I think it is all fine.
I guess in that sort of view Mass Effect Andromeda was kind of like a port.
The sequel team pushed out a new numbered title to a existing IP while the creative team was working on a new IP.

I don't mind ports AS LONG as they don't affect the developement of newer games for the console.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Even beyond that, because the Switch hasn't been all that bad with their library, it just seems kind of the easy way out, the all reward no risk sort of way to go to port Mario Kart 8. Why not port something like a physical version of Fatal Frame 4 and 5, Dragon Quest X, Mother 3, ect.

I see why the did Pokken (it's a new colab they may want to start and actually make it into a thriving series but feel the Wii U just never gave it its proper chance), but they don't need every HD remake of Zelda on Wii U to make an appearance on Switch, they don't need Smash although I would be shocked if it didn't come, they didn't need Mario Kart, ect. Make new games of these flagship franchises.

WiiU ports should definitely happen. The popularity of Switch allows the gems of that console to get the ability to sell well. In the end there will be millions of players on Switch who didn't own a WiiU and therefore would enjoy those games for the first time.

Other ports, say last gen like LA Noire, yeah sure. Its not like you have to buy it again. But for those who maybe missed or chose to miss high quality games, its a blessing to have on this unique console.

Of course having new IP is awesome too and the life blood of any console. So saying you want to see more of that is really not saying much beyond the obvious. In summary, send it all over.

I think I'm in favor of them. Maybe it'd be different if they came at the expense of entirely new games, but I don't think that's the case, even with the updates these Switch ports sometimes get. This goes for both Nintendo and third parties.

Nintendo ported over a couple of Wii U games thus far, but these were either games that couldn't do well on just the Wii U (Zelda and Pokken) or simply benefitted that much from a new version (MK8's joycon controls and Battle mode). I've noticed that games like Super Mario Maker, though popular on Wii U, weren't brought to Switch, which is a worse fit for the game.

As for the ports of older games from third parties, most of them are finding a relatively new home. Skyrim, LA Noire, Dragon Ball Xenoverse, and Rocket League have never been on a Nintendo platform or on a handheld. The biggest exception to this seems to be Rayman Legends, but Ubisoft loves porting Rayman games anyway.

Love and tolerate.

I think overall, I'm seeing some people who really see it the same way I do.

This, for example :D I just hope that we don't get stuck with third party ports of games that are all years old ... Like SFII and LA Noire.

I'm not keen on straight ports over to Switch. I wish they would mix them up more with new content like Mario Kart. As an owner of multiple consoles I tend to gravitate to the cheapest version if it still plays well. I have a gaming windows tablet that can play my steam games and for indie games they often cost pence which run well on the tablet. Being a gadget freak I want to buy a Switch but I really can't justify it unless it builds up a good library of exclusive and original games.

Mario Odyssey is still currently the only game I really want on Switch as a priority. I really need about 6 games to take my fancy before I bite. It just feels for me that won't be until sometime next year. I sort of feels that all these ports are slowing down the arrival of original games on Switch but I don't know if that is true.

It's either:

A) a game I played
B) a game I haven't played

Why do people always complain over the ports? You can always avoid them or get them. Nintendo has announced 2 ports and several new games. Not like they're simply reselling the Wii U and bringing no new content

The more ports, the better. If you already own the game, you don't have to buy it again. It's made for the people who didn't get it the first time. And considering the Wii U was such a bomb, there's probably a lot of people who missed the games the first time.
