Forums - General Discussion - How do you de-stress or cheer yourself up?

Listening to Iron Maiden or taking a walk works pretty well.

I jerk off. Let's just say my dick is eternally sore.

Playing games. Even playing a few rounds of ranked League of Legends relaxes me or at least, keeps my mind focus and away from any stress.

Splatoon 2 is a nice alternative to Overwatch.
I, as someone who generally dislikes competitive shooters thoroughly enjoy it.
No chat, so people won't yell at you.
You don't need to focus on hunting other players, as kills means almost nothing.

Mario Kart 7 and 8 Deluxe are both games which I enjoy jumping into for quick, satisfying relief.
Slime Rancher is pretty relaxing too.

I recommend checking out some kinetic novels, there is no way to fail!

Sometimes I go on random walks with music. Really helps.

Also, chocolate ice cream.

Also I'm not sure if this will work with you, but think of this (because I don't what your issue is). Will the problem matter in 5 months? 5 years?

Well I mean, I was diagnosed with dysthymia when I was sixteen, which is mild depression, and over the years it's turned into MDD (Major Depressive Disorder), and I've been through a series of different medications which haven't worked, they've just made me feel worse, or in a state of numbness where I never really felt anything, but at the same time, all of the medications I've been prescribed have conflicted with my epilepsy medication and caused my seizures to become worse. So in short, yes, the problem will still matter in five months or five months, since it's now been ten years and I'm still having the same problem, just worse than when I started with it, lol.

Bristow9091 try getting more sleep too.
It sounds weird, but theres a link between sleep (less) -> stress (more).

Take the time you need to rest properly for a month or so and see if your stress isnt better from it.

My sleep pattern has been so fucked up since back in my high school days, so much so that I now average around three hours sleep per night and that feels normal to me, sometimes I'll only have two, some days I'll force myself to stay in bed and only end up with five hours anyway... it's as if I have some form of insomnia that has been brought on from a dreadfully abused sleep pattern for so long.

This is hard to solve. Some like to tell others to just think more positively, but if people were able to do that they would have already.

I have many problems with anxiety and stress myself (in fact I even made a thread similar to this a few months ago!!), but I have a few recommendations that may help you (even if I don't exactly manage to keep up with them myself):

1. Exercise - This is my biggest failure in terms of being consistent, but remaining active really does help with your mental state.

2. Sleep - I know that this is an area that you lack thoroughly. However, while you may be used to it and have adapted to it, 3 hours of sleep long-term has negative consequences.

3. Hobby/Goal - You need something that you can work on and have a sense of achievement out of. For me, that's learning languages. However, this site also gives me goals to work towards. I have the PS Nation thread that I work on that gives me a daily goal through updating it, and I've also been trying to get to know more people here and help them get more used to the community, as a sense of building things up for them.

4. Alcohol - I guess you already know, but it sounds like a problem. I don't know if you'll be able to get yourself off of it (and in fact if you're a heavy enough of a drinker, it's dangerous to do so), but I hope that you can do something that'll make you not so dependent on it.

5. Friends - You need someone to talk to in times of need. I don't know if you have people you know in person that can do so, but I hope that you have at least 1 person you can trust. Also, as you may know, I'm always open to having a talk
