That's not a gaming opinion. That's a crappy generalizatiion. But since Nintendo fans are stupid babies, I can't be too offended. Plus, it's tough to get worked up over anything since all my energy is sapped due to the stress that comes from overwhelming bitterness.

Careful with your generalizations. you guys talk about being civil so act like it.

Anyway, I think the Wii is underrated despite being the 7th gen leader. Sure shovel ware was there, but I think there are a lot of hidden gems out there on Wii that most haven't tried. Muramasa, Zack and Wiki, The Conduit, Red Steel 2, No More Heroes, Endless Ocean, Dead Space Extraction, Madworld, etc. are titles most haven't tried and are exceptional to a library that has great games like the Galaxy games, Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Brawl, MKWii, Xenoblade, The Last Story, DKC Returns, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, etc. Sure they aren't the Final Fantasys, GTAs, CoDs of the world but they aren't pushovers.

Handhelds are game consoles. They play video games regardless if they don't connect to a damn TV. Besides obvious power differences, games like Pokémon, Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, Ace Attorney, Professor Layton, Yokai Watch, Animal Crossing, etc. on handhelds are just as much as fulfilling game experiences as games on home consoles. I'm tired of people disregarding handhelds. Heck some franchises started out as handheld games, including the biggest IP in the industry outside of Mario. You don't have to like handheld gaming, but at least respect that it's another way to play games and that it has its own benefits.

Much sarcasm. :) I said that to make a point. I'm not at all serious about the bolded, nor the reinforcement of the idea that PS fans are bitter. I would never be so gauche. I do love the term Stupid Baby though. It, along with Fragile Porciline Mouse, was my online handle in DOA on the XB360.

Sprites/pixel-"art" in modern games sucks. In the past games looked like this because of hardware limitations. It has no place in modern games that can use real artwork in place of sprites (an example that does this well visually is Shantae Half Geanie Hero). Using sprites in most modern games is just because of "yay look at how retro we are for making a platformer" is just crappy and ugly.

With this said I don't mind old games from the era when sprites was the only real option for graphics.

Games should have less save points, it's more fun when you have a challange and (if you suck) have to replay areas many times because you fail forcing you to train your pattern recognition.

More games should also become unbeatable based on decisions/solutions you do along the game (in the vein of old adventure games) and you shouldn't be made aware of this fact for a good while.

Games should also stop trying to be "cinematic". Gameplay is everything, if you wan't a cinematic experience go watch a movie. Nintendo proves this point over and over again.

Why should there be no amalgation of movies and gameplay? What if I want to play/watch an interactive movie/game? I think that cinematic games can be great experiences and there is a place for them in the industry. Sony has proven that over and over again with games like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Until Dawn, Heavy Rain and God of War.

Given I haven't played all games out there my experience with "cinematic" games is games riddeled with QTEs where the only thing you can do is to press one button to execute with no other controll of your toon, 15 min of cutscenes with about 4 minutes of actual gameplay shoehorned in (witch mostly only consist of walking/running from point A to B with no or few problems to solve).

Presentation and story are very important in games.

I like interactive movies like Uncharted, The last of us and Until Dawn.

Photo mode is an awesome addition and should be included in every good looking game.

I enjoy well implemented QTE's like those in God of War boss battles.

I loved RE4 and think it's the best RE game out there I also enjoyed 5. After that it was cap till the 7th installment.

The next Xbox should just be a gaming pc put together by MS if they want to go for a fully unified W10. I am opening a bag of popcorn for all the haters oh and power and grsphics do matter to me.

Nice thread. I will write mine when get home. Tagging.

I loathe the Xbox and Microsoft's decision to enter the industry as I feel it has changed the industry for the worse to a great degree. If it wasn't for them operating the Xbox division at a seemingly permanent loss and funding the it with money from elsewhere in the larger business the Xbox would be a non issue today. I hate the way Microsoft has gone about it's business in the industry, it buys great talent and brands and let's them die slow painful deaths quite often, and has even managed to lose it's lead studios in the last few years. The Xbox itself is held afloat each generation it's been present purely off the back of the Anglosphere as well, essentially USA, UK and to a lesser extent AUS, NWZ and CAN.

I think Nintendo's hardware decisions since the Gamecube-GameboyAdvance have ranged from okay to bizarre and their developers would create better gaming experiences on Sony's hardware at every point. Even though I have loved and always played Pokemon normally, despite my reservations about Nintendo's hardware, I decided in the wake of what I believe to be another vastly inferior device (the Vita is hands down a better piece of kit than the 3DS) to forgo playing new Pokemon games from now on. I dream of a day when Nintendo pack in hardware and move their games development to Sony purely for better experiences on more capable devices.

As much as I love Sony and hold the Playstation brand in the highest regard possible in this industry they are far from perfect. I think the manner in which they went about the Playstation 3 was shocking and they are lucky that people like myself exist and the brand is as strong as it is that they were able to shift 10 mil in year 1. They have had the best handhelds for a while and actively going about sowing the seeds of their death within 2 years of releasing them by dropping first party support. I think Sony has the better console brand and naming scheme, Playsation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 etc, it allows ease of understanding for casual consumer, where as their rivals have adopted bizarre approaches in this regard. I think Sony is right to be denying cross platform play with the Xbox brand as much as they can, and indeed this is a PR stunt by Microsoft to try and make Sony look bad. I've long held the belief that Sony has better games for their systems than Nintendo but accept this is probably because I was not brought up with the NES and SNES and have little nostalgia for Nintendo's IPs. I think Sony are bloody fools for letting go of so many of the their great first parties as well, especially Studio London/Evolution studios.

I hate the casual consumer. I understand completely their importance, there is far more of them than there are of people like us who read up on the industry and they are the ones with the buying power as consequence, however that doesn't make me hate them less. They are easily swayed by marketing and are the kind of people who think the WiiU is an add on for the Wii and will be stuck in a store questioning a member of staff about this for half an hour.

I don't like PC gaming, the whole idea of using a mouse and keyboard is not how I was introduced to and have played games throughout my life. Whenever I'm involved in a discussion about PCvsConsole it often comes down to Mods, better graphics and the ability to pirate or otherwise circumvent the cost of gaming that put PC ahead for whoever is arguing for it and none of it appeals to me, I've never actually pirated a game and nor do I intend to.

The Last of US is certainly one of the best games of all time for me despite the growing trend of people deciding against that declaration, purely because it felt like at the end of it having sat through an experience that if it were a film would be a billion dollar grosser and winner of 12/13 Academy Awards.

DmC from Ninja Theory is a good game and solid reimagining of the series.
Final Fantasy XII is the best Final Fantasy game ever made outside of XV which I have yet to play personally, and XIII is the worst because in the wake of the criticisms XII received post launch from older fans it's like Square took the worst of XII and the previous instalments and formed XIII out of that sludge, again outside of XV for the same reason previously stated.
I think Dead Island is actually a great game and wasn't let down by the finished product like some were after that admittedly stunning trailer.
Tekken > Street Fighter
James Bond Nightfire is the best James Bond game.
Killzone is my favourite FPS series and I think Killzone 2 might very well be the best FPS ever made.
JRPG > WRPG
Spyro > Crash
I thought Resistance Fall of Man was one of the strongest launch exclusives ever released.
I actually prefer Gen V of Pokemon to Gen I

Playstation gaming for 18 years this 2012

Twilight Princess's gameworld is not "empty", Wind Waker's is.

Though it needed a bit more tweaking, the building system started in Rome II Total War is better than the "everything everywhere" approach of older games.

The Last of Us is the worst of Naughty Dog's games I played, which is all of them in the PlayStation era except their Jak & Daxter games.

I only play games when I don't have anything better to do, usually playing things is not really that much fun, it's just a tool to combat boredom.

Goddamn, I agree with so many of this. Not all but many of them. I like The Last of Us analogy. It's like The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King of video games.

* Final Fantasy 9 was regressive and mostly soulless.
* Mega Man 3 is the best of the NES series (not 2).
* Other than the lore and tone being fucked super hard, DmC wasn't terrible.
* Limited motion controls (move the controller a certain way) should be used in more games.
* Zelda 2, Actraised 2, Parasite Eve 2, and the original (birds eye view) GTAs are great games.
