Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo has crossed the line that even EA, Capcom, and Activision hasn't!

the point is they can be used in multiple games. a single mario amiibo could have features in Smash Bros, Mario Party, Hey Pikmin, Mario Kart, etc. plus you get a figurine of the character.

Some amiibo are pretty bad in terms of locking content away, but to stack Smash Bros amiibo with them, which just allows for a customizable ai character that can be used with any person's game, seems like a stretch.

Yeah Im sorry. I didnt realise that locking a feature/ mode of the game behind Amiibo requirement is of no concern.

I get the idea behind that feature, and that your AI can be trasnferred, but its a prt of the game and one that shouldnt REQUIRE an amiibo to actually use. I should be able to train my own AI for use with my game without having to be forced to save the AI file onto the amiibo. Unless this is no longer the case, or I am mistaken that you need an amiibo for this system (ive been under the impression you do) then I dont think its a stretch by any means. ITs essentially locking a feature on the disc you paid for behind an arbitary extra purchase that I may not actually want in the first place.

There are moments where the practice of amiibo id bad, but this one does not look to be one of them. You can already customize the AI in difficulty if you want. Nothing is lost when you take out the amiibo.

1. Yes, it sucks that content is locked behind an Amiibo. Frankly, I feel the same way about any DLC. The Amiibo just makes it worse since they are all $13, and limited supply.

2. This game already has a built-in hard mode. This is just a different hard mode. It is not worth getting that upset over. If you don't like it, the best thing to do is vote with your wallet and don't ever buy Amiibo.

The difficult thing about this is that people buy these for the figure alone, so sales of the figurine are unlikely to change.

The artwork/music being behind amiibo doesn't bother me at all. Most games don't come with artwork or music included. Many times, they're limited to special editions which cost an extra $20-$30 more. If Nintendo wants to stick that in as an extra little bonus for people that buy their figures, that's fine to me. If you don't want to buy the amiibo but still want the stuff, then hey, all the artwork and music will be uploaded online for you to enjoy for free within a week, tops. Same as any limited edition that comes with artwork or music.

The Fusion Mode bothers me a bit more. It's not as bad now since a hard mode is included, but it should still definitely be in the game (although I'd be fine with the Fusion Suit aesthetic on its own being withheld to amiibo owners).

With that said, if you think withholding a hardest mode pales in comparison to what Activision, EA, or Capcom has done, then I don't think you're paying very close attention to what they're doing. That's not a defense of Nintendo; Nintendo's certainly in the wrong here, but this is nowhere near as bad as some of the shit those companeis have pulled. If you want to see some truly horrible DLC practices, check out Asura's Wrath or Dead Rising 4's "true ending" DLCs.

Just like with DLC
Just like with in-game loot boxes
Just like paying for online

If people just buy it and support it there is a huge chance others will want a slice of this new pie

I personally think Nintendo is worse than EA. Most Nintendo fans think they can do no wrong though. Nintendo can literally punch them right in the face and they won't say anything

Wow, so much bullshit in one single post.

Oh, I thought this was about online. Did you know that not even EA or Activision are scummy enough to make you pay for online?

The more you know.

Anyway, moving on. Yeah, screw Amiibos!

I have to say that Nintendo is fairly ingenious when it comes to business.

I'm going to say it again: Amiibo is the worst thing to happen this gen.
Making DLC, which can already be a bad thing, physical and limited, which both make it harder and more expensive to get, is ridiculous.

What's truly ridiculous is that there's still alot of people who think that Nintendo doesn't use scarcity marketing even though amiibo are a thing and they mysteriously have "shortages" all the time.
