Forums - Sales Discussion - How the Xbox One X can have a real shot at success, despite the high price.

Remember when PlayStation 2 failed because the hardware was weaker than Gamecube and Xbox? Remember when Wii never outsold the HD consoles? Oh that's right they were the best selling systems of their generation. My bad. I thought is all that mattered...gee... Oh and Switch is $300 not $400.

The most powerful console won in the 4th generation, the SNES over Sega Genesis. In the 5th, the CD technology of the PlayStation destroyed the N64, and also it had better polygon performance that bested the Saturn's. It won the 5th and was most powerful. And no N64 was not the most powerful. It had 64 bit capabilities but couldn't handle them very well. The textures were stretched and blurred, plus the cinema scenes were near impossible with cartridge tech and Nintendo lost Final Fantasy due to the cartridge tech. PS4 is the most powerful of the 8th generation (until Xbox One X). It has been winning pretty much all along partially due to hitting 1080p vs 900p for Xbox One. People like the idea of having the best version of a game. As you can see you are clearly wrong. Power can help win generations.

Also, Xbox One X is the biggest leap in one generation, ever. This is a bigger leap than PS2 and the original Xbox. Lastly, I have been following Amazon sales for a long time. Switch has been sold by scalpers on there for months at $400+. The price has finally come down to about $380. Check out Amazon best sellers right now. There is an Amazon best sellers thread that appears right here on Vgcharts pretty often, but if you just type Amazon best sellers in a search engine, you will find it quickly.

Please do the research before blasting me in the future.

I don't know where you got your information, but Switch is the first Nintendo system to reach a teraflops. In comparison, the PS4 has 1.8 teraflops.

He got it where all other people that are even remotely following tech have...on various tech sites.

Switch is powered by Tegra X1, a 256:16:16 GPU (if you know what that means) running at 768Mhz docked and 307.2MHz handheld (which translates into 0.39 TFLOPS and 0.16TFLOPS, FP32) or when boosted 921MHz docked and 384MHz handheld (0.47TFLOPS and 0.2TFLOPS, FP32).

What you're thinking of is FP16 performance, and when docked, in boost mode Switch can deliver 0.94 TFLOPS....XOneX can deliver 12TFLOPS FP16.

EDIT: Actually scrap that, there's no boost mode (so far) in docked mode, that was only tested, but not implemented. So 0.78TFLOPS FP16 in docked mode.

Thanks for the info.

OK, the Switch has been selling on Amazon at up to $420.  Wow! I can't believe ppl are willing to pay that much for relatively weak technology! But they are in droves. It's been giving PS4 serious competition despite a higher price and low availability.

Here is my theory:

Xbox One X could turn things around for Xbox. If ppl are willing to pay over $400 for the low power switch, $500 for the most powerful console ever seems like a no brainer. The only problem is that Xbox has almost no true exclusive games coming. Phil Spencer has made a mess out of Xbox. Only one major exclusive first party game this whole year!

^ People are willing to pay 400$ for a new system with a new library of games, and great lineup of really strong 1st party exclusives.

The problem is : Xbox One X, plays the same games your old Xbox One does. Xbox doesnt have a strong lineup of 1st party to look forwards too.

Xbox One X isnt going to turn things around for xbox.

Its not about value, so at 6 Tflops for 500$, your getting decent value in terms of (power/$), but without the games it just doesnt matter.

Erm, correction, Switch has 0.2 tflops in handheld mode, 0.4 tflops docked. XBox One X is a measly 15 to 30 times more powerful. Won't matter one bit!

Will matter to third parties

Correct.

Your entire argument is flawed and it's for a very obvious reason : People aren't buying the Switch at 400$ for power. You essentially said "Wow, people are buying a weak console for 400$! Of course a powerful console like Xbox One X has a chance at 500$!" No. Consoles very rarely get bought for power.

And your list of reasons could be said by anyone. But they won't likely happen.

Read my reply to Segasanshiro. Power indeed has helped win sales and XB1X is a more significant leap than in probably any one generation. And ofcourse any one can say what I said, but I collected these in my post and said them with my own take. Is there something wrong with that?

Looking at best selling games like Minecraft, Rocket League etc I doubt it's power that console gamers want.

XOX will convince some XO owners to upgrade. With no flagship title to offer with the launch, it's not going to appeal to the masses.

I don't think the One X can be a big success, people really dislike it on the internet and there is a lot of negativity around the Xbox in general

But I am excited about it and it seems you are to and thats really all that counts, I enjoy all platforms and even the platforms with "no games" like xbox and vita have been great experiences for me !

Third parties don't matter to Switch buyers though :p

In general, third parties do not matter as much for Nintendo Systems since the SNES. It has cost them though. Only Wii managed to win a generation since the SNES with it's then fresh motion controls and lower price. Switch launched with The 3rd or 4th best ranked game of all time on Metacritic. Also, the hybrid console/portable is fresh and new like Wii motion controls were. If Nintendo puts all of there releases into this year and jext, and the falls behind, they will likely need 3rd party support to fill in. I doubt they can keep up the first party pace at this speed for too long.

I addressed a lot of what you are saying in my post. Please read all/reread my post.

I think it's possible for it to be a big success, but only if they do pretty much all I said. I'm actually a PlayStation fan, however I am stating what I think is a possibility. Your point about Vita and Xbox are correct. They both do have many games. Just not as much as some other consoles. More than enough to keep some entertained for years.
