You're right. That sure is more expensive than 4/8 cell phones. Yup.

Microphone array then? Worked plenty fine on Wii and Wii U. They can offer multiple voice chat options, including the phone app. It doesn't have to be just one.

How about instead of buying and carrying a Wii Speak 2 everywhere we just use our phones instead? I'm guessing that 8 players would have more than one phone (mic) between them so combined they'd have an .......array.

edit: you wouldn't need to have 8 phones if they're on loudspeaker would you? One would do fine.

Ohh for sure. That's definitely more convenient for those non-smart phone users to be forced to buy a cell phone rather than have the option of using a Switch version of Wii speak. No one would have a problem with the phone solution if it wasn't the only option.

Why can't we have both? Lol. I can see the advantages of having the app for online features (as when the switch is portable, to lighten the load on it internally as much as possible).

Give me one technical reason why Nintendo cannot offer a voice chat solution within the console itself. Just one.

Remember there are other video game consoles that are far less capabile than the Switch that already have this feature built into their operating system.

In the console itself?

There's no built in Mic like the Vita/3ds has built into their design.

From a technical point that renders voice chat using the Switch not possible.

You asked for just one... but here have another for free!

You are now thinking.... "but you can plug a headset into the audio port on the console, that has been taken apart and shown to have 4 rings indicating that the system is capable of supporting a mic in that jack"

Now you put your Switch into the dock at your TV....

Where is the Jack? You're holding 2 Joycons... sat on your couch... Where's the mic?

I mean, c'mon man. Did the 360, PS3 or XBO controllers have built in mics?

The Switch supports bluetooth. Why not use that?

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Except here we know the app is an unnecessary workaround to something that could've been included with the system itself.

Sorry, but I like the idea of being able to leave my switch to go get a bag of chips and still talk with people while my phone is on me.

You need your phone with you in your home just to talk to people?

Ever heard of bluetooth? You know, the thing that also isn't usable on this Nintendo mobile device.

Nintendo doesn't waste money on unnecessary things. If it seems redundant then that is because they haven't revealed it's full function yet.

I literally have no way to logically respond to such blind faith.  Carry on.

How is it blind faith? Even the Wii U they managed to have  years or profit. They just don't like to spend money on things unless they think it will benefit them. Also, Nintendo hardly ever tells us the full functionality of things right off the bat. This isn't blind faith, this is 30 plus years of them being incredibly fiscally conservative (it's why they have billions in excess cash).

Ah bluetooth, the battery killer. Yes, what a great alternative to wired connections that will actually last hours.

Ahh yes, because not giving people the option to use bluetooth headsets is actually saving people from themselves! Stop making false dichotomys. There's no reason there can't be multiple voice chat solutions available.

Bluetooth in its latest iterations is using next to no battery. It's in the order of 1/100 when you compare a minute of bluetooth to a minute of a turned on screen.

I have on my phone 24/7 turned on wifi, mobile and bluetooth. I have my screen turned on maybe 2h a day if I'm generous. Yet all my wireless connections combined barely scratch double digits when it comes to battery drain.

Meaning if you play on the Switch, with bluetooth and WLAN turned on, on a full battery for 4h until it's empty, then by turning off all wireless connections you would've gained maybe a few minutes. Yeah, sounds like a total battery killer to me.

Get yourself some basic technological knowledge before you try to sound smart.

Wow how rude of you. How about trying to not insult people in your post?

I totally disagree with your post btw, but I'm not going to point out why or even respond to you anymore because you're insulting.

It is blind faith because your theory that they never waste cash on unnecessary things (Virtual Boy) and are always profitable (initial 3DS debacle) is steeped in poor recall.  Sure they are profitable on things like the Wii U, but does that mean their decision to do something like this when they could've went the conventional route should be beyond reproach?  Not at all.  Nintendo making money doesn't do anything for me as a consumer who now has to worry about his cell phones battery life if and when I want to communicate with people in an online environment on a Nintendo console.

The fiscally conservative approach here (letting others create the devices that are needed to maintain voicechat) is sure great for NIntendo.  They got to save a whole couple bucks per unit on the Switch.  But what exactly does that do for me as the consumer?
