Well, could be that Monolith simply got better at compressing stuff thanks to the experienced gained with X and Zelda.

...But its probably mostly because its not as open as X(assuming here that the open world nature of games makes it hard to compress and just bigger overall.)

Very debatable the impact on file size open world has.  Skyrim's file size was smaller than most major linear games at the time on PS360.  Bloodborne is markedly smaller on your hard drive than the original Titanfall or the Call of Duty games that came out that year and since.

This could simply be the result of Monolith Soft being smarter with their file sizes.  There's a lot of ways to mitigate file size bloat.

Then I stand corrected!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Xenoblade Chronicles is just under 14GB in file size.

Curiously, that's a lot smaller the Xenoblade Chronicles X, which was 23GB

https://gonintendo.com/stories/294949-xenoblade-chronicles-2-just-shy-of-14gb

The New Los Angeles themes alone accounted for 5GB. There was a lot yeah, uh, oh, uh in there.

Seriously though, is there a trick to the rope jump minigame in New Donk City? Getting the timing for 100 jumps right is unusually tricky in difficulty for this game.

Before you get to the final speed, you need to make sure you're already jumping well before the rope lands, since it'll be hard to go any faster at that point. After that, the timing just stays the same.
It was hard to keep my eyes focused the entire time, and it gave me a headache, but it felt good to get it.

Not as intense as getting the 100 volleys for the beach-volleyball minigame. That really had me sweating.

I just get a rhythm. Once you reach the max speed, you have to keep the tempo, and hold the jump button for as short as possible (but it's not necessary. You can even do a full jump and still keep the rhythm). Trust your ears, not your eyes.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I'm sure someone must've already pointed this out, but something I just stumbled across:

Just more fuel to the fire.

Atleast Miiverse went out in glory! Once the admins left things got pretty insane hehe. Damn I'm gonna miss it though, definitely regret not being more active on it. As they say we always take things for granted until they're gone.

Two points above Ghost Recon Wildlands? That's fishy...

Alrighty, just beat the main story of Mario Odyssey.

Great game, but I wish the checkpointing had been better in the last 20 minutes; I died during the final battle and it starts me back at the church entrance, which was a tad annoying as I felt like that was wasting my time a bit; should've just had an autosave at the start of the fight. Gonna take a break and get back to the post-game content after Doom.

So checkpoint silliness aside, what did you think of the overall climactic sequence?  And so far, the game in general?  No need to be spoilery for those who haven't played it yet.

The climax was cool, it just stressed me out a little cos the whole time I was thinking "if I don't get this right in one go I'm gonna have to do the last 15 minutes all over again". XD

As a whole I thought the game was fantastic. Beautiful to look at, controls like a dream, plenty of variety, lots of awesome ideas, basically the entire package. It's pretty much everything I wanted from a modern 3D Mario.
