just like many people consider red dead redemption 2 too....

 

3d mario has been critically acclaimed... (64, sunshine, galaxy 1, 2, 3d world has more than 90% on metacritic)... so people have high expectations on those kind of games like RDR2

Every new 3D Mario game has reached the 90+ score on Metacritic (except SM 64 DS). Considering Odyssey comes at the end of the year, it could cause some serious impact on the GOTY selection.

Only the Galaxy games reached the height of BOTW's critical ratings. So, again, I don't see why we should consider it (or any other yet unreleased game) a contender for GOTY before it's even out.

i think Zelda will win many goty awards like the witcher 3 but my personal goty is Persona 5 for sure.

Especially given that BOTW will have DLC around christmas, I think that'll win it. It'll seem like a near constant presence throughout most of the year.

I think it was a given that BotW would be GotY the second it settled at a 97 on metacritic.

Calm down, half the year hasn't even passed yet.

Personally I hate Breath of the Wild for not being remotely Zelda-like (though I guess it's a good game? I dunno, not my thing). My personal Game of the Year (so far) is Persona 5. I don't think that'll change, but Mario Odyssey might be able to.

Yeah but Mario should at least take a few GotY awards home. The interesting battle imo is who comes out 2nd and 3rd. I'd have Mario penned in there but it could struggle if many Nintendo biased sites are going with Zelda (it could also be shit but ya know).
Wonder which PS game does best, really hoping it's Persona so it gets more attention but Horizon and Nioh so far seem to also be quite popular with Uncharted and who knows what from Sony coming later.
