How Sony could counter the Switch!

Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Sony could counter the Switch!

No need to counter it, they won't steal customers from one another, no matter what some seem to think.

End of 2016 hardware sales:

Wii U: 15 million. PS4: 54 million. One: 30 million. 3DS: 64.8 million. PSVita: 15.2 million.

Ooh List war. Never gets old. lol

OT: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=228039&page=1#16

With shipping 60 Million already and a possible 78 Million and more. PS4 is in a great place. I don't think they need to respond.

It is selling almost twice as much PS4s.

In fact, it seems not even once since the PS1 has a Nintendo console disrupted Sony's market on any way.

Only the X360 and possibly the XOne did.

OK, here is my exciting idea! The PS4P! PlayStation Four Portable. A system that can play PS4 games at home and on the go. No drop in resolution for portable mode and a big battery. Maybe $350 with a pack in game or $300 for a stand alone. No gimmick controlers to raise the price. Just another Dual Shock required for local 2 player. 6.2 inch OLED screen with HDR.

If the device would be successful (and it would) this price would ruin Sony. People tend to overestimenate the cost of CPU, GPU, Ram and such for a device like this and underestimate the cost for controllers, battery and built in display. Also cooling would be a relevant problem for this device and a battery would need to be huge to power this. The design might end up rather bulky.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018

Predictions: Switch / Switch vs. XB1 in the US / Three Houses first quarter

They can 'counter' Nintendo by staying in their lane, let the chips fall where they may in JPN, and continue dominating NA / EU / UK / RoW.

Again this thread? I will give the same answer again too: PS4 doesn't have to counter the Switch, the Switch has to counter the PS4.

Great idea, but not feasible until 2020+.

Does OP secretly want a Switch but would prefer it be a Sony product?

Sony doesn't necessarily need to counter the Switch, but they do need to offer a broader range of devices.

I think that a PS4 Portable absolutely needs to happen once 7nm chips are available. The current PS4 Slim only uses about 60 Watts in the heaviest gaming, they will easily be able to drop this down below 20 Watts with a 7nm APU, and newer lower power higher density RAM chips, among many other improvements and reductions over the next few years, and with the removal of parts not needed for a portable. The $300 price point may even be high by 2019.

They also should offer PS4 in a Tablet/Laptop form and offer a 4G variation of the PS4 Portable that can be used as a
Phone.

Eventually, all Sony products should be using a standard and scalable chipset customized for each device, and running on the PS4 OS. Sony should be building a unified ecosystem, so whether you buy a TV, laptop, console, camera, phone, car audio deck, or any other Sony product, they all work together harmoniously. All Sony products should be able to run PlayStation games, as Sony should be leveraging its assets and content to create higher demand for all of their products. It is not about selling PS4 consoles, it is about getting as many people on your hardware, your OS, and your ecosystem.

That is how Sony should not only counter the Switch, but compete in every market of the industry. They are already in all the markets above, but right now they are battling themselves, moving all products to a scalable chip set and a unified Sony OS, will drive revenue and profits well beyond record highs. Which in turn means more new games, more new IP, and more new ways to play.

Almost every single one of your posts lately reads as "here's all the products I wish Sony would make for me" while masquerading it as "these are all the products Sony needs to make". All of these ideas your pushing would be massive failures. We don't even know at this point if the PS4 Pro was actually a smart decision, and you want them to make a "laptop console"?

Give me a break. Your whole post is completely nonsensical.

No it never did, wii alone has exclusives enough to double ps4's+ps3 list of exclusives and ps3 doesn't even stand a chance alone. if you want to go on with this list all the ps3 exclusives and i'll list all the wii exclusives, you can even use sequels, it just can't be on x360/pc or wii.

EDIT: i'll help you with this, wii : 332 Exclusives, x360: 221,  ps3: 191 exclusives. ps3 doesn't even beat xbox, so what's gonna be your narrative now? make up more narratives that didn't happen to make a point on your arguments?

Gotta point out that those "exclusive" lists have some glaring inaccuracies, although that should be expected when using wikipedia as a source

Saw timed exclusive games included some of the time, but excluded others (eg. Zelda Skyward Sword included for Wii and TLOU for PS3 despite Wii U and PS4 re-releases, while Uncharted 1-3 and Halo 3-4 aren't included). Same with HD remasters/remakes (Ico + Shadow of Colossus HD are included for PS3 but not Killzone HD). There's games that weren't even released on there (Littlebigplanet HUB) and some that were released but aren't listed (Pokepark Wii, although the sequel was listed for some reason?) and probably a whole bunch of other errors too.

Skyward Sword is playable on the WIi U? Fairly certain you are wrong there. Only Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were remade on the Wii U.

FUN fact: Almost all of those "Wii only games" can be played on Wii U via WiiWare, Virtual console or direct ports on wii U which brings down the tally of exclusive into double digits. But if you still

wanna consider them as exclusive then please consider PS2 games emulation on original launch PS3.

TIP: Never use wikipedia as source.. e.g. PS3 list doesnt even include tons of japanese only exclusive games.

That is just a stupid argument. When talkign exclusives, one shoudl never discount an exclusive if it becomes available on a FUTURE device, especially when its the same companies future device.

Heck we might as well remove all ps4 exclusives right now as well cause the ps5 will probably have some way of playing them at some point, thus they are no longer exclusive to the PS4?
