Forums - Gaming Discussion - Yooka Laylee remove 'controversial' Youtuber JonTron from game

I like his videos and still watch them (downloaded off Youtube btw.) but yeah my respect for him fell quite a bit.
I found it highly ironic how in one of this explanation videos he was defending supporting Trump by saying that people should debate using facts and not feelings.

To be expected really, for companies it's always easier to find someone else rather than use someone who could cause their customers to be turned off the game over their stance on such things.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Wow. I won't buy a game developed by pussies. This was gonna be a day one but for me. No way I'm buying it now.

Attention anyone seeing a career in packaged goods and sales: always associate yourself with controversial actions and comments associated with the products you're trying to sell to people.  Otherwise you're a pussy.

It's perfectly fine that they feel the need to cut  ties with him; they can do that. It's just more so that what he said doesn't warrant this. Anyone who thinks what Jon said is this egregious is just blowing things out of proportion.

Hey this could be a good decision for them. Maybe the number of poeple who wouldn't have bought the game if he was still in it is larger than the group of people like me. That's all okay. It's just that this shouldn't really be a controversy in the first place.

(P.S. I might or might not be heavily biased for JonTron)

Good for them, I hope Youtube bans his neonazi ass or at least stops monetization on his videos.

Pre-order cancelled.

I'll never support the developers again.

Why would you not support them? Because they took out the voice of a racist piece of shit who believes rich black people commit more crimes than poor white people?

I wouldn't hold my breath. If they allow Varg Vikernes (his YT name is ThuleanPerspective), someone who murdered his own bandmate, burned down churches, and constantly complains about Jews destroying Western society and attempting to defend Hitler by saying that he was actually anti-Christian to have a YouTube account, I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't close JonTron. Especially considering that Varg's videos are mainly political, while JonTron is not a politics focused channel.

Free speech does not mean speech without consequences, and they are well within their right to change their game as they see fit. I do hope everyone who protests censorship in games understands that. This isn't censorship, it's a change being made by a developer that no longer wishes to have Jontron contributing to their game.

That being said, while I personally plan to avoid Jontron's videos in the future, his voice being in a game I backed didn't bother me in the slightest. But hey, it's their game, and it won't be affecting my experience in any meaningful way, so...eh.

Actually, that's what it means - free from consequences , including societal consequences.

So, let me ask you this: do you support safe spaces?

Glad to know I won't be purchasing Yooka-Laylee.

People get so upset at the idea that someone has a different point of view than them, and blindly insist it's racist just because they don't like it and they person in question happens to be white. Like somehow his argument becomes more valid of he's Mexican saying these things.

Which actually is a racist sentiment.

Back to the point of the game, though: I went from being disinterested, too very interested, too vehemently boycotting this game over the course of a single image outlining JonTron's removal.

"Not too interested in it, Banjo wasn't really my thing for all the praise it gets."
"Wait, JonTron is in it? Wow, his voice is perfect for this, as is his personality. I might pick this up."
"Oh, they removed him for politically correct social justice warrior BULLSHIT. Will not be buying."

No, people get upset at a racist piece of shit who claims wealthy black people commit more crimes than poor white people. Do you even know what this controversy is about or are you just ignorant and just want to blame the Es Jay Dabuloos for murdering "da opinionz"?

Really sad we have people here defending this shit and trying to portray racism as a "difference in opinion".

They need to ban the neonazi filth from Youtube, it's shitty how white supremacy is getting more mainstream.

Nail on the head, free speech doesn't mean no consequence.

So it isn't REALLY free speech then huh?

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

What's a safe space?
