Forums - Sony Discussion - After almost 3,5 years best games are remasters?

Not that surprising. The best games from last gen were carried over. Very few games get 95+ on metacritic. It's usually 1 ever 2 years or so.

Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Last of Us are both what you could probably call "once in a generation" events, games from certain dev teams that truly defined the gaming landscape at that moment and made it their own, so it's really no surprise that the ports on Gen 8 systems have gone on to be just as well received. Think of them as the Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 2, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy VII, Halo 3, Skyrim (the list goes on) of that specific part of the generation. Games that stood above everything else being released at that time while having an impact on the gaming landscape.

Since 2013 and GTA5 or The Last of Us being released, I imagine that the only games that could really sit at the table with those mentioned before are Overwatch and Breath of the Wild.

Metal gear solid 2? that game was pretty much hated upon release haha I remember everyone saying goes how shit that other character was, and how crap part 2 was compared to part one etc

Raiden had his fair share of shit flung his way, but Metal Gear Solid 2 saw universal acclaim  and went on to sell over 7 Million copies. Game was so far ahead of its time and fans of the series have only come to appreciate it more over the years.

Mario Odyssey!

Too much 64-ish for me, don't think it has any kind of possibility I would enjoy it more than Zelda.

so, maybe a new zelda...?

Those are still some of the best games of all time, with that said GTA V is nothing compared to Horizon, Bloodborne, Witcher 3 or Uc4 in my opinion, Last of Us is superior to all of them though.

Plenty of great games.

Honestly, I don't subscribe that much to professional games criticism. If you compare the way games are scored and awarded to the way that movies are, you'll notice few similarities. For example, someone has cited the fact that GTA V has sold better than perhaps any game aside from Minecraft as an explanation for why it is scored so highly on Metacritic. If you look at the movie business, by contrast, solid commercial performance offers no proof of critical opinion. Nothing that cracks the top 10 blockbusters for any given year ever gets awarded anything hardly. The industry, the unions, and the critics all tend to agree that the best movies tend to be indie pictures and the awards are used to highlight their existence for the benefit of a mass audience that independent filmmakers can't likely afford to advertise to. In my view, if games criticism was a serious business, it would work similarly. And people often rightly question the objectivity even of films criticism. Games criticism has a long way to go, IMO.

Go back through the history of the oscars and you find  plenty of movies that rank amongst the most succesfull movies ever from a commercial aspect .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Did you forget about Zelda?

Pretty much like the new Zelda, but they just held it to release together with the new system, instead of dropping it on the Wii U a bit before.

Anyway, TLOU still wasn't topped by any game, IMO, so it's not that strange.
GTAV is also the biggest commercial success ever, so it's understadable xP
Zelda also seems like the best thing the Switch will have for a long time, maybe the whole gen, so yeah...

Xenoblade Chronicles 2!

Are you strictly looking at metascores for the best games? Because there have been other excellent games released aside from those 2.

Doesn't mean you should dismiss it. :P It's a 3D Mario that fans have clamored for and, along with Zelda, hasn't lost significant quality. Plus there's Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Warriors and the next main installment next year, Splatoon 2, a potential new installment of the Pokemon series, and who knows what will be shown at E3 and beyond.

..but I think I'm a little off topic since this is a Sony discussion.

Well, I was answering about my POVs on them, but I don't think Mario can get a 97 as well, it did with the Galaxies, tho, but I don't think it'll happe with Odyssey.

Dont forget that Mario 3D World for Wii U has score of 93, and Mario Odyssey definatly looks much more exating and better. Maybe will not recive 97 but it could recive 95.
