GAME HAS ARRIVED!

I will be playing it in about 4 hours!

Congrats, have fun!

Around the Network

So, a few hours in and spent most my time trying to create a character. The gameplay and combat is fine, not quite as precise as 2 or 3 but good. The idea of exploring and stuff was nice and a lot better than just 'go down this hallway until everything is dead'.

But those customisation option... man, was that an after thought for the developers. It's like late last year they went to each other "Crap, aren't we suppose to let people make their own people?" Their issue is the presets, you can only edit presets, which in turn means the base skin colour, eyes, even noses, are adjustable based on those instead of having a near free customisation like ME series had before. I mean you can't choose your eye shape... that's weird. It's like in every other customisation character game.

The characters I've seen (human ones at least) are all a bit more... squishy/podgy too, like they've got a bit more body fat on them than the toned character models from ME2 and 3.

Anywho, that's a side thing, I'm a little way in, just got to the big space station.

Hmm, pie.

So I am probably 15-20 hours in. On to my third major world (the second of which I could NOT place an outpost on).

There is no hiding that the first 6 hours was slow going. But since then, I have to say I am entirely engrossed like any Mass Effect before it! Did NOT sleep last night.

I'm hoping to get to that point eventually. I just got finished with the first outpost on Eos and have been doing some quests around the Nexus, but things still feel really slow.

I'm really enjoying it, and except for some stupid VO and that one characters seemingly spliced VO or poor voice acting (my face is tired), its a mass effect game.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Around the Network

Right so, I've finally had a good weekend with it and I'm liking it a hell of a lot more. If the original ME team are working on Biowares new game and this one had help from the DA:I team, then it shows. It is like Mass Effect: DA:I edition in a sense to me. Big open worlds, tasks to do in them (very few go there 'collect this' mind you), sell junk for money etc. The characters are still not the most interesting and the main character just isn't as resourceful or just plain awesome as Shepard. Shepard was sure about what they were doing, Ryder is not and it comes off a bit odd. But loving the combat and exploration of it all. Just finished up my second world, went back to the first to do some more things about to go to my 3rd.

I will add though, that I'm not sure what they did with the Asari but then went from sexy space alien women to all looking the same with odd rounded noses alien women.

Generally stayed away from the Nexus myself, not much there other than the shops I guess.

Hmm, pie.

so what are the thoughts on this? i will be getting this in may. but i hope the criticism is over blown and the game is fun and has a good story.

I'm liking it so far. I just finished doing stuff on the third world. I like the exploration aspect. As far as the graphics, yea they are kinda shit for a game this late in the gen, but I don't care much about graphics. The Multi-player is alright. The character customization is pretty crappy, I just went with the main male character. Maybe I'm not that good at games, but I put it on hardcore mode. It seems pretty hardcore indeed. Too much raging in some missions. Good game overall though, I liked horizon more as a setting and characters, but Im gonna be playing this one a lot longer. It just seems to have a lot of content.

Poor Barney

Thanks for your insight on the thread. Unfortunately Barney never updated his and it's gone without any response since September of last year. I asked for permission to take it over, and here I am. Hoping I can maintain interest, I guess it all depends on whether this game can get a stable following behind it.

That's what you get when you're lazy :). You better do a better job taking care of thread... or else! Anyway, I have two weeks off work, and I've already poured over 40 hours into the game (don't judge me), and I'm not even 2/3 of the way finished! Reminds me of the original mass effect game, both in good and bad ways; but it finally feels like an RPG, especially with how much mass effect 2 and 3 cut in terms of the quality of side quests and exploration. The side quests are just so amazing! God I can't stop playing...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

The side quests are quite fun, different to many games where it's just go there collect this boring stuff, sure some are that but things happen along the way or whatever. I just did a mission on Eos where I went to check some earthquakes. At the end when it said 'Kill the Revenant Architect' on the quest log, I was like "Huh, I wonder what that is." Boom, massive tenticle monster. Good times. I surived but that thing goes mad every now and then.

Hmm, pie.
