Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I think Microsoft will release an xbox console every three years.

I believe more than ever they are taking the PC gaming route where xbox owners will be able to upgrade when they like to play games. This way they can have the cheapest system and the strongest system at the same time. For example, I think the xbox scorpio will be able to play ps5/xbox two games just at a lower resolution/textures. Unlike the xbox 360 and xbox one difference it won't be as huge because this will only be a 3 year console difference instead of seven. Microsoft UWP and directx 12 allows automatically scaling for what works best.

Yeah i wouldn't be surprised if that happens. Or every 4 years from now on.

I think your right.

I’ll probably be getting every other upgrade in this scenario, so since I got the one S I’d skip the Scorpio/Scorpio S ect. and grab whatever incremnintal upgrade is after that which I’m guessing would be the two.

I think every 4 years concidering what I have seen from them on social media they sounded very much like 4 years would be ideal.

I am all for it by the way I love short cycles DEPENDING on how big the upgrade is, I skipped the PS4 Pro personally but I expect the Scorpio to be a bit larger of a jump especially in amount of memory available.

yea I think releasing a console that is forward compatible for 1 "gen" (+ backwards compatible all the way to X1) all 3-3.5 years is the most likely way forward for MS

Count me out then.

Agreed, thinking more along the line of 4 years.

Each system gets 6 years of guaranteed support. So mandatory Xbox One support til 2019, Scorpio til 2023 etc.

What they'll need to do is ensure that Scorpio has an impressive CPU which can support the future PS5 games, because that'll be what stops this plan for working. A weaker GPU will quite comfortably be accommodated is graphics calling and lower resolution.

Every 4 years and i think they will support two xbox ones at a time.

That is silly statement. Why would they do that?

1. If they did that less people will buy consoles, why buy a console that will have a new one coming out in 3 years? People buy into a generation because of new generation, better hardware, and better games. A 3 year cycle only means... slightly better hardware.

You definitely wont be seeing ps4/xb1 selling numbers

2. They don't make money selling consoles. Hell, they probably losing money selling consoles. When's the last time Microsoft make money selling console? xbox? 360? xb1?

Money is made through games, xbox live, ect.  The hardware will get better as time goes on and people can choose to upgrade. The difference between xbox scorpio and xbox scorpio 2 will be three/four years in hardware. It's like a medium gaming pc and a high end gaming pc that are running the same game. One will make the games look better than the other.
