Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Launch UK Numbers

Game Boy Advance (UK Launch) - 67,000 (81.5 million sold worldwide)
Nintendo GameCube (UK Launch) - 69,000 (22 million sold worldwide)
Nintendo DS (UK Launch) - 87,000 (154 million sold worldwide)
Nintendo Wii (UK Launch) - 105,000 (102 million sold worldwide)
Nintendo 3DS (UK Launch) - 113,000 (65 million sold worldwide and counting)
Nintendo Wii U (UK Launch) - 40,000 (13 million sold worldwide)
Nintendo Switch (UK Launch) - 80,000

Launch sales doesn't really paint a good picture of what's to come in terms of sales overall, especially in one of Nintendo's weakest market. 80k may look bad when you compare Playstation and Xbox (strong market for both) sales into account but fairly decent when you compare it to previous Nintendo consoles. I mean, its just 7k under the DS launch sales in the UK but not a chance in heaven will lifetime sales be anywhere close to it.

I'd say they are fairly good numbers and considering stock issues, I wouldn't expect many numbers next week though due to stock. It's sold out at all there major retailers Amazon has it down for stock on 13th March currently and GAME state on their site they have no confirmation of the next stock delivery from Nintendo.

How many did rush to get it though?I don't think the Switch is at the moment a very good value proposition for the pampered 3DS owner. They will come eventually but for now the launch numbers tell us absolutely nothing about LT sales.

Many. You may wanna look up the numbers. I don't know how to access them myself.

According to this site, globally 3DS sold just about 90k (up from 70k) the week OoT3D released. I think you are exaggerating how many people rushed out to get a 3DS for that game.

pretty much this, week 1 sales mean nothing in the long term. And it seems like Switch is pretty much sold out in the UK.

The price is too high and the system is barely more powerful than the aged Wii-U, which is a serious problem in my opinion. They could have developed all future games for Wii-U as well with no need for a new console.

Also the hybrid concept does not appeal to me at all, I really hope for a smaller mini version with much longer battery time or a real console that doesn't scratch. The system is not attractive for the average customer, numbers are only higher than Wii-U because of Zelda.

Not a strong start imo but let's wait and see how these things will continue.

Ooops, my mistake the 3DS sales I used was outdated. Just changed it.

Damn, I didn't realize the PS4 started off with 250k.

Not terrible but nothing to celebrate about. Better launch numbers than the Wii U but I would attribute that to Zelda being a release title. Hopefully sales can pick up was games like arms, MK8 deluxe and splatoon come out in the next 3/4 months.
