Forums - Gaming Discussion - Forbes: The Graphical Focus Of Microsoft's Scorpio Already Feels Outdated

yeah, let's just all forget that Microsoft was the pioneer in creating a true online console gaming experience and pushing the idea of a console being a media center.

They also pushed the X86 architecture in a console, which we see the benefits with making porting games between PC/PS4/One a lot easier. That and making the 360 controllers compatible with PCs helped the PC getting a ton more games that would have stayed on consoles otherwise, revatilizing the platform.

Oh yeah, and the Xbox live arcade. They basically created the whole "indie" image, an industry that the PS4 and the Switch are riding on right now.

And what about Halo? Being one of the games that helped created e-sport

I'm not saying they are perfect, but they clearly changed a lot of things and had a huge part in shaping today's gaming industry.

yes now they are lackin in first party games, yes the scorpio should not just be about better graphics. But who says it is? Microsoft has clearly proven over the years that they want to innovate on every levels. So give them a chance to present scorpio and its games before trying to take them down...

And Atari was once on top of the console market.  Your point being?

Cave Story.

You can see more @ tigsource

And you think that the dude didn't deserve any money for a game he worked on during 5 years?

Anyway, that's one game, we get hundreds of indie games every year now. And many of those studios actually make money, which is great. Because it's great for them that their passion and their job are actually the same thing.

That altruistic indie scene, it didn't care about money, that's the beauty of it...

I see that the tig's db is down. Still, you do remember flash games, right? Few current indies began in flash.

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

Imo, Scorpio has a chance of success if they manage to position it as stop-gap between a game console and a Windows PC.
It should have some the flexibility of a PC, hardware optimization and lower entry price of an home console.

PS4 Pro is proof that people are not going to run and buy a revision of a system just because the system is more powerful. I mean, I bought one, but when I say people I mean the masses, not the gaming enthusiast. Anyways, I don't see the scorpio or the pro as a bad thing, I buy graphics cards that are more expensive cause I like the best performance possible and there are a lot of people like that. However, so far the implementation is not good enough.

Sony said the pro is doing better than expected and the slim is doing worse.  Until we see some worldwide numbers instead of Japan only I wouldn't say the pro is not successful.

I'm not saying "not successful" I'm saying not as successful as the main ps4 and not a hot item like the main ps4 for the masses. "power" is not a selling point for the general consumer if they can buy "the same thing" for less money. Do you think that normal consumers care about framerate (they don't even know what that is) and a "4k" resolution when that resolution is not even mainstream yet. Again, the ps4 pro could have some good sales but it's not neccessary for their success. It's a product for gaming enthusiasts, that's why the normal ps4 with uncharted 4 costs $250 most of the time.

Nintedo is here to proof that m$ is totally wrong!... Time to Time..

I think it's a bit early to whether the Switch is the right approach or not. If it stumbles shortly after launch, it really won't have proven anything against the Scorpio.

No, the Scorpio's real problem isn't that it's focusing on being the most powerful console for about two, its problem is that all they are focusing on. That and MS has a different view of Xbox and, more importantly, its games. MS has basically been changing the focus from gaming on Xbox HW and switched it to focusing on games on Windows 10. It stripped the XBO of exclusives to do that and that's not going to help it. Especially as Sony continues to pump out games only available on PS4/Pro. Having really nothing else to push the system, Xbox is focusing on specs, which can't sell a system alone. It doesn't help that in about a year or so, we're going to be hearing about the PS5, which is going to leave the Scorpio in the dust in that category. Plus, have quality exclusives only found on it.

The industry is slowly waking up and realizing that graphics aren't everything when most people can't see a significant difference anymore. Games started looking very realistic almost a decade ago, now it's just a matter of resolution and slightly better looking images and gamers are starting to wonder if there's anything else to it.

Slowly? The industry has always been this way. Dating back to the start, more powerful has never won any battles. When will core users of the video game industry realize it? Why are you so late the the party?

The pro was never intended to be the new main PS4. The console was made to appeal to a broader market and the posibility for people to upgrade their console. In doing those things the pro was a succes even if 2160p isn't very common on PS4 pro. Sony also introduced the pro to lengthen this gen. Time will tell if that's going to work out. But the masses will still go for the PS4 slim.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

This is all over this thread, the dick measuring dude bro culture that we can date back to the whole PS vs Xbox feud. Developers are exhausted, gamers are bored and we need a breath of fresh air.

I don't think that is the point of this article.

The point is more that teh scorpio is just another been there done that. The Switch is something new and unique. It's exciting. Whether it works or not is beside teh point. People are excited to try this new thign out. (yes I know of shield and other switch alike products, but to most this is the new thing)

Think of phones. The second teh Iphone 7 comes out, or the Iphone 6, or whatever #, instantly you see articles and speculation about what new cool unique thing they will add the next phone. No bezel, no home button, foldable, ect.  You know neat new features that are not on the market. You don' see them clamoring over "man i can't wait till they get the tigra x1 or whatever you want to say.

Then the Iphone 8 comes out and its basically the ps4/xbox one, you know a processor and camer pixel upgrade. That basically it. We have been stuck with that since basically the iphone 1. Just a screen size getting bigger and processoer upgrades.

That is why teh switch is exciting and scorpio is not. The switch offers somethign new. Could it take th world by storm, like teh Wii did, or the iphone did. Or will it fall on its face like the Wii U, or the 3D screen phones? That is yet to be seen. But it's exciting to think of the possiblities.

The Scorpio, we know what we are getting. Another sitting on the couch with a controlelr in hand playing a game. The graphics are slightly better.

The Switch offers somethign new. Picking that system up and taking it with you. Could be amazing, or not. I mean I thought the smart watches sounded dumb, yet i love my garmin. It is teh most convenient thing in the world to have it show me when I get text messages. Then the whole runnning apps and so on. But maybe this switch will show us that yes, we do want to pick up and go with our games as well as sit down.
