Kimishima is after Michael Pachter's job it seems.
I hope so. Kimishima is a reasonable man and if I remember correctly he was skeptical about Wii U. Maybe he's seeing something?
I tend to agree with him. At least close to Wii levels.
This is both a home console AND a handheld from Nintendo, which will receieve the developement pipeline from both the console and handheld studios of Nintendo and third parties. It will also be the home of a mainline Pokemon game. This thing is going to sell, people. I don't see it hitting 100 million, but I'm fully confident it will reach, if not surpass 3DS levels of 65-70 million, and probably creep even beyond that.

More proof that Nintendo are completely out of touch with the gaming industry.

Don't feel bad for Nintendo, they have a lot of money on reserve (the Wii and DS years have been very good to them and just recently they posted a healthy profit). And as much as I'd love to have Nintendo's games on PS4, Xbox 1, and especially PC, it ain't happening any time soon. Just how this industry works, sadly. |
I'm sure fans of all these consoles and such would love to have games from their competitors. Why wish for either one of them to go down? Nintendo wants to go their path why not let them decide how to integrate their hardware with their software? They've been doing that since the NES days.
As for Kimishima's expectation, I guess that's fine if he thinks that way. He's certainly not gonna predict less than Wii U and not show signs of uncertainty. What partly made the DS and Wii successful was Nintendo's non-wavering confidence in those systems. Iwata, from Gaming Historian, believed in those products even when the DS had a slow start and the Wii was being doubted by analysts and gamers. I don't necessarily believe the Switch will reach those type of sales, but I think they'll be proditable, which is the bottom line at the end of the day.

Pretty much.
Wasn't Microsoft too expecting to sell 200M Xbox One when they made it a DRM-console?
It's Sony's "People could get 2 jobs to buy a PS3" level of out of touch.
He is the CEO after all.If Nintendo themselves are not positive about their own products, who will be?
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Good they're aiming high, I think its very possible with a road map that includes:
-A handheld focussed Switch (this'll trigger a huge number of repeat buyers)
-A console only Switch for $149
-A Premium Switch XL
-Multimedia and tablet functionality emphasis post launch.
