Forums - Gaming Discussion - Horizon and Zelda... a week apart? Will BOTW be overshadowed by the new Sony IP.

I will be playing...

Both Horizon: ZD and BOTW. 114 10.18%

Just Horizon. 290 25.89%

Just BOTW. 520 46.43%

I'm going to wait to see... 33 2.95%

BOTW first then Horizon. 120 10.71%

Horizon first then BOTW. 43 3.84%

Total:1,120

The partisan posturing on both sides here is frustrating. Both Horizon and Zelda look excellent, no need for "my game destroys your game" nonsense. My take on this topic was that a new shiny IP with robit dinos will dull the impact of 'another Zelda' in the minds of the masses, not of Nintendo fans or game reviewers. I still think it will, at least short term, and that's nothing to celebrate.

Not  saying  zelda  won't  be amazing  but, it cannot  reach  10' graphics  are not a 10,horizon  destroys zelda's graphics.

That's like saying King Kong 2005 is a better movie than King Kong 1933 because the graphics are better.

Or the Star Wars prequels are better than the orginals.

Or how about The Hobbit against LotR. You know how they used fancier technology and CGI to do all teh orcs and stuff versus in LotR where they had guys dressed up. Clearly Hobbit is better cause of that right?

Or The Force Awakens is a good film...

Sorry, just wanted to bash on that film.

Ha. I remember the New Years Eve party I was at that year. Everyone had seen the movie (well the guys anyway) and we just sat around talking about the cool parts, but mostly the bad parts and the parts that were blatant copies of A New Hope. But each time we sad something bad, we woudl all go "Oh, but the movie was awesome, right. and laughed"

It was a perfect example of initial hype biasing a review basically. The further we continued to get from the movies release the less good the movie basically got. The "amazing" wasn't as amazing/neat anymore and the glaringly bad stuff just got bad. Basically the same as the prequels in that sense. Regardless of what you think of Phantom Menace now, I'm sure when it was in theaters and you saw it you were excited, happy, thrillerd, ect when you walked out. It was finally a new star wars movie. It had cool new fancy battles that shamed the originals. (choreographed to hell, I mean) Then the excitement wears off and you can judge.

It's why I never scream GOTY for new games. Wait a couple months after you beat a game and look back on it and 9 times out of 10 you would now rate it lower.

Zelda is a mega-hit no matter what. A year from now, it'll still be selling great and talked about.

Horizon's biggest competition isn't Zelda - it is other PS4 games. In case you missed it, PS4 is going full steam ahead with a really stellar lineup that may cause some gamers to put off Horizon over time. Already in this immediate timeframe you have Nier, Nioh, Mass Effect. Once you add the likes of TLOU2, Spiderman, Red Dead 2 and others into the mix - that makes Horizon really easy to pass up because you simply don't have the time.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Yeah, the pacing for FA was just too quick and constant action and noise is not what the good Star Wars films (4 and 5) were all about...

Anyways, back on topic.

Let alone it's competitors in sales right now, from what I've seen of both these games they are not in direct competition.

When watching Horizon, I'm more reminded of gamesl like Assassins Creed and Tomb Raider. There really isn't much at all that makes me think of Zelda. The only reason tehy are being compared is due to releasing with in days of each other and being open world.

Honestly, Horizon and Zelda are not much alike... I'm sure this "rivalry" was made up by the fans, and those graphics whores out there that will right away bring up that card to the table.

All I can say is that Guerrilla games did a fine job, and Nintendo's EAD may have done so as well. I'm personally not interested in either game, but Zelda's Switch Presentation trailer is BEAUTIFUL, and got me a little curious about the game. While I can't stand the main chick in Horizon, cause she ugly. So there you go.

Horizon passed zelda on yearly amazon rankings.
Not saying much ofcourse but still

I see horizon pulling of a uncharted 4 and sells about 5-8mill this year, literally every one i know that has a ps4(21people) got the game.
