Funny thing though is, Nintendo seems to be in it's own market. They sort of come out with it first with Wii U, and finally get it right with Switch. (you could argue the Shield, but that just again proves my point. It didn't click) |
So at some point you have to realize you're a very small minority. Playing games online is what the vast majority of gamers do and that's been the direction of games in the past 15 years. I'm glad you're able to have fun despite that, but I wouldn't know how what to do without all the great times that've had on Live and PSN.
Im quitting when local multiplayer ends.
About the online, I can keep playing splatoon and MK8 online on wii U. for free, and without buying splatoon 2(splatoon seems a sequel, not a remaster) and MK8 deluxe.

It's quite strange how easily people change their mind when their favourite company does the same. I always liked ps+ and didn't care for multiplayer, so not sure how I would have reacted if that weren't the case. At least with Sony I think there was a smooth transition, imho.

But the thing is, they may have gradually changed their mind since then. I know I have. I thought dlc's were stupid until I started buying some. I even bought a season pass (one of the worst gaming trends I can think of) of Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and that a complete waste of money.
Considering i refuse to by anything but console exclusives on a console (PC ports are normally always the superior version) this matters little to me. Ive owned both a WiiU and still own an xbox one and the only game i even play on my xbox is Madden 17. I have so little time to game anymore that i doubt i will get a switch.
I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

You nailed it. Sony handled the situation masterfully. Instead of erecting a paywall like Microsoft, Sony took an already popular product in PS+ and massaged online gameplay into it. Sony sold the idea as a game subscription service that also provides online play, instead of an online paywall that also provided a few games. It was brilliant, and it worked. A lot of PS4 customers were actually thankful for it.
Nintendo should have paid attention and done the same, if it wanted to make online paywalls more digestible. It should have established a "free" games service years ago and then folded into it online play.

I'm getting the impression that they thought that their die hard fans, those who have been gaming on Nintendo home and handheld consoles for decades, would be ok with it because they offer games they can't find anywhere else. Whether that will be the case or not remains to be seen. I still think they could have done better and the decision to offer NES games is just... weird to me. But they've done it before with 3ds and it worked (didn't hear many people complaining) so who knows.
PC + Nintendo Switch sounds like the best combination to me going forward!
Well I'm all about retrogaming, and against paid online. So I'll just not but any systems with that function and keep gaming anyway.
