Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Calls Scorpio “The Only Console” Capable Of “True 4K” and “Hi-Fidelity VR”

We knew about these general features for a while now, so you’re likely wondering what the story is here. Well, notice the language: “The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR.” Could this be a subtle shot fired at Sony’s PS VR and PS4 Pro? The upcoming PlayStation console upscales content to 4K, but fans were disappointed it doesn’t seem to offer it natively for every game and Sony has reiterated commitment to the standard model console for VR experiences.

And in the case of VR, the PS VR is a great headset due to its affordability and ease of use, but it’s clearly underpowered when compared to the Rift and Vive. Claiming that the Scorpio will be the “first and only console to enable…hi-fidelity VR” is a bold statement.

I am hoping we get some more info from Microsoft before next years E3.

Xbox Nation,

Get your popcorn ready.

"The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR"

So the 4k native and vr games on ps4 pro don't count then?

It's a true statement, the ps4 pro can only do a checkerboard solution to come close to 4k gaming. SO not a single game on ps4 pro will be a natively 4k experience, which is true. BECAUSE it's simply not powerful enough to render it.
Scorpio will beable to do true 4k gaming if they do indeed have the specs they are touting if not slightly more when e3 2017 happens.

PSVR is a budget VR device. What it sells is completely irrelevant to future generation VR devices. Which the Scorpio may support. I would assume it will support one of them.

Scorpio being BC is great news for all the Xbone games sporting dynamic resolution. I agree though, it sucks that the Scorpio might be held back by the Xbone, just like it sucks that PS4P has all those stipulations and rules regarding its games. If I cannot have a FPS boost in my MP games then why the fuck would I wanna buy one, lol.

Haven't there been some games for PS4P already confirmed for native 4k?

All for $699! Ah who am I kidding. They're gonna sell this thing for a 200 dollar loss. It'll be nuts.

"For the simple, affordable price of $599"

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Indeed just as it's true with the same power difference between xbox one and ps4, all games on ps4 are true 1080p while not a single game on xbox one is native 1080p. WiiU doesn't have a single 1080p game either, nor the ps3 or xbox 360!

It's going to be a fun year. By the time the Scorpio comes out that 6tf will look even less impressive than 4.2tf does now. A GT 1080 already does 9tf.

What are their plans for hi-fidelity VR? What the heck is hi-fidelity VR. So many words, so little to actually show. While Nintendo says nothing, finally shows a video without any concrete details only to further stoke the rumors lol.

Back to my low-fi VR fun, getting closer to the platinum in Rez Infinite :)

Cool story MS. I will be enjoying native 4K The Last Of Us, NBA 2K17, and many more in anticipation of true 4K next year. I will also be enjoying 1080p/120fps versions of Driveclub, Gran Turismo, Farpoint, and Resident Evil 7 in VR. Very interested to see what Hi-Fidelity VR will look like next year.

At the end of the day it is just marketing talk. Microsoft has nothing to go up against PSVR and Pro this year, so they have to spread as much propaganda as they can for the next 12 months. They have no option, and I don't blame them. I am very excited to see what Scorpio turnsbout to be. I think Pro, Switch, and Scorpio are the most exciting console lineup we have had in a very long time.
