Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NS backwards compatibility.

I think they might just use how they are adding Wii Games and I think DS games too on the eshop. Just replace that with Wii U games and 3DS games.

But from the trailer, it looks like we are getting enhanced MK8 and Splatoon versions on the Switch.

3DS uses cartridges, would be pretty cool if it had 3DS BC.

Oh and even without the same physical media digital BC is still possible, the Vita had it for PSP games despite not being able to play the physical versions.

I doubt it will have 3DS BC. How would you play 3DS games without second screen?

No chance in terms of physical media (in the trailer the NS cartridge looks more like an SD card than 3DS one) , but some digital releases are likely to happen. Mostly ported from the Wii U as the 3DS is a two screen system, NS isn't.

i was planning on going completely digital anyways.

want some pot? i made a coffee.

I'm not annoyed. I'm not buying it so no BC means nothing to me.

I'm not bothered by that since I'm keeping my WiiU.

Nah, they have different architecture.

I think there is going to be, but just through digital.Through the Cirtual console or just relaunches like we had with some titles from Wii to Wii U

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Sorry, but the Wii U BC was probably the worst Nintendo one. I'd rather have none than have to boot up a second operating system and be forced to used the wii mote and bar just to get a wii game running.

Already confirmed:
http://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-confirms-no-physical-backwards-compatibility-for-switch-no-comment-on-mobile-games/

Nintendo confirmed to Famitsu that the Switch would not be compatible with Wii U discs. They also confirmed that it will not be able to read 3DS game carts either. A form of digital backwards compatibility might still be possible, but if you want to play your physical Wii U and 3DS games, then you need to hang on to those consoles.

Famitsu also asked about whether or not the Switch will be able to play games developed for smart devices. Nintendo declined to answer that question at that moment.

Finally, Famitsu asked about the Switch’s battery life. Nintendo refused to give specifics, merely saying that the device was designed so that players could play “as long as possible” and “comfortably” on the go.
