Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NES Classic Edition controller cords are only 3 feet long

Hiku said:

You said "I get the idea they're going with" meaning you think they shortened the cable for this reason. If they shortened the cable for this reason, then cable length is not irrelevant.
Either way, the NES being on the table is exactly my point. The controller, TV and power cables were long enough for flexibility like this. Making the cable 3 times shorter is not replicating anything.
And obviously it's on the table for this commercial shot. It might as well be on the floor next to the table. There are old VCR commercials looking like your picture as well. That doesn't mean they wanted people to sit that close to the TV.

You're not talking alien. But you are projecting your anecdotal experiences with the NES unto others.
If someone wants to sit on the floor because they did so in the past, they could even with a normal length cable. But forcing someone to sit on the floor when they never did that before, is not nostalgic.

I really don't know where you get all this from, you seem to be under the impression I implied things while I didn't. That I meant more than what I wrote, or worse, that I defended the short cables and talked out of my own preferences. But in reality there wasn't anything to read between the lines. No implications, no hidden thoughts (your first sentence; what?), no personal projections or anecdotes. In fact if you must know I used to play NES with my cousin upstairs on the bed at grandma's house using (probably) controller extension cables. I meant nothing more than just, the literal words.

So, I'm sorry, but I can't help you anymore. And I'll quote myself:

Anyway, I'm done here. It's like I'm talking "alien" apparently.

It's a mini NES, so of course the cable length has to match the console size! :p

It's a little bit silly how many posts in this thread are essentially "I wasn't interested in the NES Mini but if I was then this would be a deal breaker."

Yeah lol I was thinking the same

Some sligtly negative detail about a Nintendo related thing? Gotta make it sound like a Drama: "In my dreams I was going to buy it, but now I rather wake up" BOOOOM

its a strange decision but I imagine their thought process is that its insanely easy to get USB extenders and to just have the system sitting on your coffee table.

also it supports original Nintendo NES controllers if I'm not mistaken so anyone can just obtain one of those (longer cord). I also imagine they will probably sell some sort of extension accessory (since they're selling extra controllers and things already seperately).

I don't think anyone can logically defend the short cord decision, it obviously was just to keep the price point at 60$, maybe somehow lengthening the controllers effected packaging and things overall somehow enough that it would have changed the price point entirely and made the item a less of a 'buy' then otherwise

that said its a 60$ item, extremely cheap in comparison to actually obtaining an original system with those games. If someone cares that much and intends on using this device a lot they can either use original controllers OR buy an extension cord for the mini's power cord and just sit the thing temporarily on their coffee table when they use it. not that crazy

Like I said in the other thread, you can also go full retro with your old NES controllers with this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2K0C8M/

so this will work on the NES mini?

Just buy an extension cable for the controllers. Problem solved.

It's a proprietary connector.

There will likely be propriety extension cables... Which like... Already exist?

My god. -.-

You could be onto something Platina. They scaled it by making the system three times smaller, so they do the same with the cables.

The mini is a perfect scale model
(although the controller is not scaled :P)

The new mini controllers are basicly classic controllers, since they will also work on Wii and WiiU through the Wiimote.
So that should work too.

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

Eh, just another stupid decision for a stupid machine that will sell on brand name alone.

Weid decision, but the HDMI cable is very long, so the same thing.

Is it? I thought they haven't announced the HDMI cable length yet. Do you have a link?
