You said "I get the idea they're going with" meaning you think they shortened the cable for this reason. If they shortened the cable for this reason, then cable length is not irrelevant.
Either way, the NES being on the table is exactly my point. The controller, TV and power cables were long enough for flexibility like this. Making the cable 3 times shorter is not replicating anything.
And obviously it's on the table for this commercial shot. It might as well be on the floor next to the table. There are old VCR commercials looking like your picture as well. That doesn't mean they wanted people to sit that close to the TV.

You're not talking alien. But you are projecting your anecdotal experiences with the NES unto others.
If someone wants to sit on the floor because they did so in the past, they could even with a normal length cable. But forcing someone to sit on the floor when they never did that before, is not nostalgic.

I really don't know where you get all this from, you seem to be under the impression I implied things while I didn't. That I meant more than what I wrote, or worse, that I defended the short cables and talked out of my own preferences. But in reality there wasn't anything to read between the lines. No implications, no hidden thoughts (your first sentence; what?), no personal projections or anecdotes. In fact if you must know I used to play NES with my cousin upstairs on the bed at grandma's house using (probably) controller extension cables. I meant nothing more than just, the literal words.

So, I'm sorry, but I can't help you anymore. And I'll quote myself:

Anyway, I'm done here. It's like I'm talking "alien" apparently.
