Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is no 4K Bluray on PS4 Pro the biggest BS Sony pulled yet?

They practically force people with 4K tvs to buy an Xbone S or Scorpio now, I certainly would if I got meself one of them shiny Oled tvs with HDR. Not to mention Scorpio is 6Tflopz so games will look better on it(probably native 4K), that's a given with 1.8tflopz of difference and after yesterday's talk of temporal solutions etc.

PS4P should've been 499 with better specs and the new Bluray drive included. The console is meant for the hardcore anyway, why not go all in?

Seriously tho, no support of the newest medium and one they have such vested interest in, is so un-Sony like. Sony was always on the forefront of new technology and I've never seen them cheap out like this.

I think it's time for Mark Cerny to go, after Knack and this fiasco Sony can't afford themselves another failure!!!!

For people collecting 4K Blu-ray movies the XB1S is an attractive product due to its price (even though those people probably already have a better 4K Blu-ray player).

For all of those people that just stream their HD and 4K content, I think PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim offer a tremendous value with their capable hardware, their HDR support and especially their interesting current and upcoming game library.

PS4 Pro: 4.2 teraflops - $399

PS4 Slim: 1.8 teraflops - $299

XB1S: 1.3 teraflops - $299

Since they own and license the technology, Sony probably know a thing or two about Blu-ray's market share in the consumption of 4K content.

*looks at Amazon sales*

Yep Sony really messed up!

Not sure if 4K blu ray is really needed. Physical media is dying and mass adoption of 4K blu ray is going to take few more years if it happens.
I suspect the big gun consoles from PS and Xbox will likely start to have staggered releases. I would assume we would get a PS5 in about 3-4 years, maybe they could add a 4K blu ray then. This PS4Pro is just a half step. The next console needs to fix the significant CPU bottleneck.

Tongue in cheek?

The PS5 Exists.

Exactly, adding an expensive new peice of hardware to something costing a lot would only result in a repeat of PS3. Pricing consumers away from the console.

It's not a new console, it's an upgraded one. Next gen we will get the 4k blu-ray player, this gen be happy with the fact they are having 4k gaming let alone even upgrading the console to begin with. They could have not even bothered.

Unless this is sarcasm then...

Hmm, pie.

They got burnt last gen and still fear selling an expensive console and selling at a loss.

Additionally, they probably looked at BR sales and 4K BR sales alongside streaming adoption rate.

Here is the thing though, come next holiday and you have the Pro drop to $350 and the Scorpio release at $600 or more, that 1.8TF difference won't be so enticing.

I buy video game consoles to play video games.

I cant remember the last time i put a movie into my ps4 nor have I bought a blu-ray disc in a long time but it does seem crazy that this is suppose to be an all in one 4K machine and doesnt have one. But then again this is for the hardcore gamer not the hardcore movie watcher
