Wii U had way more time than NX will have and Wii U flopped. If anything this is a good sign because if they are planning this correctly, then it means that Nintendo is confident in their product to leave so little time for advertising. It so we can hope.

They failed to get the mainstreams appeal and understanding. The fact that some actually thought the Wii U was a peripheral for the normal Wii, just shows their marketing teams failed. Giving them less time to work with isnt the answear. Hopefully nintendo hired new people to do it for the NX.

Less time for marketing a more complex concept isnt a good thing.

Nintendo had tons of confidence in the Wii U.

You cant really say its a good sign, or a bad one.

But I stand by that you need to give marketing time to work, its not just magic and 1 ad and you win over people.

Less than 6 months, obviously. As I mentioned above, GameCube and Wii U had a year and a half from their unveiling, and were flops. DS and Wii were unveiled less than 6 months before they launched, and both were gigantic successes.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Honestly I think thats more to do with the products, than the marketing they had.

Yeah, 6 months would be a good amount of time to advertise the console with how easy it is to spread news around today. The just need to show and inform about the console during those 6 months as well as show the games. Simple enough.

Actually, the marketing they did was excellent. Showing people how it works and how people can play together was simple and easy to get. "Wii would like to play" was a pretty smart slogan.

The three biggest myths of Nintendo:

1. The Gamecube was Nintendo doing the same thing as Sony and MS, a traditional, powerful console.
2. The Wii's sales were primarily due to Soccer Moms and Grandparents and not traditional gamers.
3. Wii U failed because of lack of marketing.

On the last point, Wii U failed because it's a bad product. I've enjoyed it, but it's inferior to pretty much every other product on the market.

If NX is interesting, 6 months is more than enough time to get the word out. People just have to actually like the word.

Does anyone even know for sure if the NX will be officially announced in September?

I definitely remember hearing about the Wii in 2005 where at the time it was called the Revolution.

If NX is known before the Holidays it could potentially sway some PS4/XB1sales, so there's definitely reason to reveal sooner than later even if they don't start heavily promoting it until 2017.

I bet you remember hearing about the NX in 2015 as well. But the Wii itself was not unveiled until less than 6 months before launch, and that is what we are waiting for with the NX, the unveiling.

I'll just leave this here.

Wow, that's a shorter time than I recalled.

They really get it. I hope Nintendo does too.

How long time between announcement and relase was it with PS3, X360, Wii and Wii U?

X360:
Announced in May 2005.  Released first in Nov 2005.  Time of 6 months.

Wii:
Announced in June of 2005. Released in Nov 2006.  Time of 17 months.
Controller unveiled in Sep 2005.  Difference until launch - 14 months.

PS3:
Announced in May of 2005.  Released in Nov of 2006.  Time of 18 months.

But the product advertised for nine months sold more than the one advertised for 6. Also you would have to come to the conclusion that they wouldn't have sold better with more advertising.

Do you honestly think that 3 month difference is directly proportional to the doubling of sales?  And I've concluded nothing.  I was merely stating the time frames.  You are the one drawing conclusions.

Depends if you honestly think the success of two companies products based on the time they were revealed can directly be applied to a third company. Sounds like the same jumping to conclusions to me, I'm just jumping with you.

The facts are Nintendo isn't going to WOW people with flashy visuals. Most people will honestly have a problem seeing a difference between Wii U and what this has to offer, and most people have a problem buying a handheld for a premium price (*see 3ds and vita). We also know that Nintendo's advertising isn't going to have a budget of a small live action movie with popular celebs (*see COD advertisings and Destiny). It's going to take some convincing.

Fact: It is a shit ton easier to sell flash than it is to sell an idea.

I actually think that 6 months is too long. A proper viral campaign where its trending all over social media would be just as good as a 100 million dollar campaign. There's only 2 shots they absolutely need. They need that shot where everyone is standing in line and are absolutely pumped up for it. The other one is a shot of someone saying that all their friends that they know are buying this console. Even if the second shot is a lie. They need that shot.
